3 Coin Series Presented In A Custom RCM Metal Case. World Wide Mintage 7500! Coin 1: The Royal Aircraft Factory S. 5a, Coin 2: Sopwith Triplane & Coin 3:The Curtiss H-12. A Great WW1 Themed Collector’s Series & Airplane Enthusiasts Must Have! Packed & Ready For YOUR Enjoyment! Aircraft technology was barely a decade old when the First World War began in 1914, but the needs of warfare quickly fuelled incredible advancements in aviation. This fine silver coin pays tribute to the aerobatic Sopwith Triplane, and the Canadians who famously piloted it over the Western Front between May and August 1917. Second coin in an exciting new 3-coin series that shines the spotlight on aircraft flown by Canadian combatants during the First World War! Painstakingly engraved in stunning detail with selective colour: The reverse offers a faithful depiction of two Sopwith Triplanes, made famous by the all-Canadian Black Flight pilots. Coin is 99.99% fine silver and with a mintage limited to 7,500 coins. Celebrates the daring, pioneering spirit of Canadians who took to the sky and helped steer the course of aviation history! Sure to be treasured by collectors and aviation enthusiasts for its artistic merit and historical theme, this striking coin is also a deeply meaningful gift for those whose loved ones proudly served their country abroad, whether on land or in the air. The reverse design by Canadian artist David A. Oram features a detailed, engraved depiction of two Sopwith Triplanes flying above the Messines Ridge in June 1917. The use of selective colour recreates the distinctive appearance of the Black Maria flown by Flt. Raymond Collishaw of Nanaimo, B. While at rear is the engraved depiction of the Black Roger flown by Flt. Ellis Vair Reid of Belleville, Ont. The Sopwith Triplanes reputation for exceptional manoeuvrability is on display as the Black Maria completes a sharp turn; this allows for a closer view of the planes markings, wing construction, even its. 303-caliber Vickers machine gun atop the fuselage. The parting of the clouds reveals the tragic devastation of the Ypres area below, where there is little left of the village of Passchendaele save for the ruins of its church and the road that curves through the blast-scarred fields. Material: Pure Silver (99.99%). This Aircraft of the First World War coin series concludes with a tribute to the Curtiss Model H-12 flying boat, which was flown by Canadian aircrew serving in the Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS) during their anti-submarine and anti-zeppelin patrols over the North Sea. Third and final coin in an unforgettable 3-coin series that shines the spotlight on aircraft flown by Canadian combatants during the First World War. Painstakingly engraved in stunning detail and enhanced by the use of selective colour: The reverse presents a historically accurate depiction of a fiery encounter between a Curtiss H-12 and Zeppelin L-22 over the North Sea. Oram features an engraved rendering of the fateful encounter on May 14, 1917, between a Curtiss H-12 (foreground) and the Zeppelin L-22 (background). Heavy cloud cover is evident in the engraved background, where a break in the clouds reveals the North Sea below. In the foreground, selective colour recreates the light colours of the H-12 piloted by Flight Sub-Lieutenant (later Air Marshal) Robert Leckie of Toronto, with an attention to detail that is made evident by the inclusion of the identifying number 8666 and the blue, white and red stripes and roundels used by the Royal Naval Air Service. The detailed engraving only adds to this, recreating the smooth lines of the H-12s laminated wood veneer hull and sponsons, all while capturing the finer details on the wings and the twin mounted engines in the interplane gap. The engraved zeppelin can be seen with its rear exploding into flames, mere moments before the L-22 becomes the first zeppelin shot down by a flying boat. Coins, Collectibles & Comics! 2017The Fogotten 1927 Designs-RCM Coin Lore Set of 3 Prf 1oz Silver. 9999(18113)

2017 FINE SILVER 3-COIN SET. ROYAL CANADIAN MINT COIN LORE: THE FORGOTTEN 1927 DESIGNS. In 1927, three circulation coin designs were chosen to commemorate Confederations Diamond Jubilee; alas, they never made it onto a single coin. Ninety years later, the Royal Canadian Mint is re-visiting some of Canadas coin lore: weve dug deep in our vaults to retrieve these concepts and bring them to life in this three-coin set, which artfully bridges the past and Canada 150. All three coins feature the unused circulation coin designs intended to commemorate Canadas Diamond Jubilee in 1927. Working with the original sketches (and little else), the Royal Canadian Mints engravers set out to interpret each artists vision as though the art had been entrusted to them today, to mark Confederations 150th anniversary. The 90-year-old concepts have been painstakingly adapted for modern engraving techniquesincluding a reverse proof finish that allows the more brilliant engraved elements to shine bright against the matte backdrop. The five-cent coin by Canadian artist J. A second design by MacDonald graces the reverse of the 25-cent coin, and centres on a soaring view of the iconic Peace Tower on Parliament Hill. The clock tower soars high above the clouds and is surrounded by a ribbon-wrapped laurel of leaves, from which hangs four bellsan ode to the Dominion Carillon, which was inaugurated on July 1, 1927, during the Diamond Jubilee festivities. Each bell bears engraved numbers that combine to form the commemorative dates 2017 and 1867. A behind-the-scenes peek: A glimpse of the Royal Canadian Mints archives! Joining two milestones: On the 150th anniversary of Confederation, we look back on history to re-visit proposed coin designs from another milestone year: Confederations Diamond Jubilee in 1927! 90 years in the making: This marks the FIRST time these designs have appeared on a coin, and they may be the only coin designs submitted to the Royal Canadian Mint by Group of Seven co-founder J. MacDonald and renowned muralist Gustav Hahn! A careful balance: Our team of engravers poured over every little detail of the original sketches in order to interpret each artists vision, while adapting it for todays engraving techniques and finishes. A design that stands out: The matte field puts the focus squarely on the beautifully engraved elements that truly shine! Face Value: 1 cent/5 cent/25 cent. Composition: 99.99% fine silver. Weight (g): 31.39. Packaging: Maroon clamshell with standard black beauty box. Artist: Gustav Hahn and J. Finished size: 225 mm x 113 mm. LAUNCH DATE: May 2, 2017. ADVERTISING DATE: May 2, 2017.
