DESCRIPTION The wolf (Canis lupus), [a] also known as the grey/gray wolf or timber wolf, is a caninenative to the wilderness and remote areas of Eurasia and North America. It is the largest extant member of its family, with males averaging 4345 kg (9599 lb) and females 3638.5 kg (7985 lb). [6] It is distinguished from other Canis species by its larger size and less pointed features, particularly on the ears and muzzle. Its winter fur is long and bushy and predominantly a mottled gray in color, although nearly pure white, red, and brown to black also occur. Mammal Species of the World 3rd ed. 2005, a standard reference work in zoology, recognises 38 subspecies of C. The gray wolf is the second most specializedmember of the genus Canis, after the Ethiopian wolf, as demonstrated by its morphologicaladaptations to hunting large prey, its more gregarious nature, and its highly advanced expressive behavior. It is nonetheless closely related enough to smaller Canis species, such as the coyote, and golden jackal, to produce fertile hybrids. It is the only species of Canis to have a range encompassing both the Old and New Worlds, and originated in Eurasia during the Pleistocene, colonizing North America on at least three separate occasions during the Rancholabrean. It is a social animal, travelling in nuclear families consisting of a mated pair, accompanied by the pair’s adult offspring. The gray wolf is typically an apex predator throughout its range, with only humansand tigers posing a serious threat to it. It feeds primarily on large ungulates, though it also eats smaller animals, livestock, carrion, and garbage. A seven-year-old wolf is considered to be relatively old, and the maximum lifespan is about 16 years. The global gray wolf population is estimated to be 300,000. The gray wolf is one of the world’s best-known and most-researched animals, with probably more books written about it than any other wildlife species. It has a long history of association with humans, having been despised and hunted in most pastoral communities because of its attacks on livestock, while conversely being respected in some agrarian and hunter-gatherer societies. Although the fear of wolves is pervasive in many human societies, the majority of recorded attacks on people have been attributed to animals suffering from rabies. Non-rabid wolves have attacked and killed people, mainly children, but this is rare, as wolves are relatively few, live away from people, and have developed a fear of humans from hunters and shepherds. 999 Diameter: 38.6 mm Weight: 1 oz – 31.1g Finish: COLOR AND SILVER Certificate COA: Yes Box: Yes. Canadian artist Alan Beddoe was tasked with revising the arms to reflect two elements preferred by Canadas new monarch, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II: the use of St. Edwards Crown in place of the Tudor crown and a change of leaf colour from green to red. Beddoes revision was recreated two years later for the half-dollar (which has traditionally featured Canadas coat of arms) by the Mints Master Engraver at the time, Thomas Shingles. Widely considered to be one of our most beautiful commemorative pieces, the 1949 silver dollar is re-imagined on a 5 oz pure silver coin. LOOK BACK ON OUR PAST! As it appeared on the 1949 silver dollar, the original reverse design by Thomas Shingles commemorates Newfoundlands entry into Canadian Confederation on March 31, 1949. Beneath the water lies the Latin inscription. VAMay the New Found Land Flourish. The obverse features the effigy of King George VI by T. As he had done with the Victory Nickel, Shingles prepared the master tooling for the 1949 NewfoundlandCommemorative dollar entirely by hand in the span of just five weeks, carefully carving the design in miniature directly onto the steel matrix. Shingles retired in 1965 but continued to work as an artist, and won the design competition for a 1971 silver dollar that marked the centennial of another provinces entry into Confederation: British Columbia. Commemorative coins werent common practice in Canada until the 1960s. Previous to that time, the dollar was the denomination of choice. Most designs were reduced to scale for engraving. In 1949, the typical method was to create a large model of the coin design first, then reduce it using a pantograph engravernot so for the 1949 silver dollar, which showcases Thomas Shingles outstanding skills as an artist and engraver. The 1949 dollars were struck from selected dies to ensure a superior finish. Packaged in plastic or cardboard tubes of 20 to minimize abrasions, the coins entered circulation in late June 1949, with the first ones sent to Newfoundland. Some 1949 dollars were struck in 1950. Due to demand, the decision was made to continue striking the coin in 1950 while retaining the 1949 date. An additional 40,718 pieces were struck in 1950, for a total combined mintage of 672,218. Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell with a black beauty box. 99.99% pure silver. Thomas Shingles (reverse), T. I do leave feedback for everyone. 2007 1-Kilo Silver Coin Early Canada. 9999 Fine (12070)

Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games 1-Kilo Silver Coin. Canada’s diverse and abundant wildlife play the central role in the coin’s design: a grizzly bear with a salmon in its mouth to represent the west coast, a plains bison for the prairies, a moose and a beaver for the central and eastern regions and a wolf and caribou for the north. The First Peoples are represented in this design, both as individuals and through their distinctive building forms which were influenced by the geography, climate and the available building materials: the totem pole is found on the left side of the coin and represents the West Coast, the tipi is placed centrally in the design to represent the prairies, the wigwam is placed to the right side of the coin to represent Eastern Canada, and the inukshuk of the North is placed near the top of the design. This coin design also displays Canada’s rugged geography. The left side of the coin represents the West Coast with both ocean and mountains, while centrally the design conveys both Prairies and inland waters. To the right side of the coin is the rugged East Coast Ocean which then transforms into the barren lands of the North. Face Value: 250 dollars. Mintage: 2,500 (per coin). Composition: 99.99% Silver.
