All coins offered in this listing are unsearched! (see Additional Information below). All of our Canadian coins are acquired directly from the Royal Canadian Mint – The counterfeiting of numismatic coins, and the sale of stolen coins, are serious problems for coin collectors and dealers. Unlike many other coin dealers. To protect against these risks, we do not sell’second-hand’ coins. All of our Canadian coins are stored in a climate controlled, smoke-free vault. Maximum Mintage 3,000. Composition – 99.99% pure silver. Weight (g) – 31.39 (one troy ounce). Artists – Michael Skrepnick (reverse), Susanna Blunt (obverse). Despite the species extinction 10,000 years ago, the woolly mammoth continues to inspire and intrigue many who identify it with the last glacial period. With these finely detailed coins, the Royal Canadian Mint celebrates this impressive mammal that once roamed parts of present-day Canada. The mammoth fills nearly the entire face of each coin, shown in a striking side profile, sculpted in exceptional detail. First in the new Prehistoric Animals Series! Image fills almost the entire coin! This finely detailed portrayal of the mammoth has been selectively frosted to enhance the soft natural texture of the fur, and accent its smooth, curved tusks. The pose highlights the imposing stature of the mammoth, and the natural beauty of the tusks which could grow to 4 meters long! The coin features a scientifically accurate depiction of a woolly mammoth, verified by paleontologists from the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology. With its head raised, the mammoths trunk is outstretched between its famously long, curved tusks. The thick, coarse fur that enables it to survive the colder temperatures is shorter here, reflecting the molting that scientists believe took place in the early summer. The mammoths extra hump of fat appears over the shoulders. In the background, the low grasses and gentle sloping hills of the mammoths habitat stretches past the images outer rim on both sides. Each coin is encapsulated and presented in individual Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clam-shell protected by a custom beauty box. Are also available for an additional charge. All of the coins offered in this listing are unsearched. Many coin dealers search all coins when they are received from the Mint. They “cherry-pick” the best coins. Then submit them to be graded, certified, and slabbed by PCGS, NGC, ANACS, etc. When a dealer searches coins, those that they sell in original Mint packaging are only lesser quality coins. Photos: When a listing offers multiples of the same coin, one coin is picked at random and photographed. Since all coins offered in that listing are essentially identical, the coin photographed is representative of all coins offered. Surface areas that appear black on some proof coin photos are actually highly polished, mirror-bright metal reflecting the color of the camera. Whenever possible, we use actual photos of our coins, rather than just artists conception drawings from the Mint. We frequently update and upgrade the photos that appear with our listings, using improved cameras and lenses and better lighting. We will honor your requests for additional photos as quickly as our schedule permits. For millennia, herds of enormous woolly mammoth roamed the frozen landscapes of North America. Covered in insulating moisture-resistant hair that could measure up to a metre in length, adult mammoths weighed up to 8,000 kilograms and grew to more than three metres in height. They used their massive tusks to fend off predators and to dig in the snow and gather food. Though their key predators were the various large cats and wolves that populated the continentand even then, only when the mammoth were young enough to fellhuman hunters proved perhaps the deadliest of all for the mammoth and are believed to have eradicated them in a number of regions. The last mammoth population, on Russias Wrangel Island in the Arctic Ocean, died out around 2000 BC. History doesnt get much cooler than your frozen Woolly Mammoth coin! FIRST COIN IN NEW 2-COIN SERIES! Yours is the first coin in an exciting series of coins featuring animals found in Canada during the last Ice Age. Your next coin in the series is. An ice bubble was applied over top of the mammoth while around the perimeter of the ice bubble is a simulated frost effect. Outside of the ice bubble, the mammoth was struckwith no colourcapturing the true essence of its unique time in prehistoric history. Regardless of special packaging, the Royal Canadian Mint certifies all of its collector coins! 99.99% PURE SILVER! Your coin is GST/HST exempt! Only 5,000 coins will be made worldwidebuy today! Designed by Canadian artist Glen Loates, your coin portrays a snowy Ice Age landscape with a herd of mammoth traversing a frozen plain. The image centres on a single mammoth who faces the viewer, its massive tusks rising high into the sky. The image is overlain with a frosted ice like dome. The portion of the portrait under the ice is coloured, while the remainder of the image is struck-only. The reverse includes the text CANADA and the date 2018. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt, as well as the coin value of 20 DOLLARS. The mammoth thrived throughout the Pleistocene Era, a period of successive glaciations throughout the Northern Hemisphere that featured a significant drop in global temperatures. Mammoths are one of the most common and well-preserved species uncovered from the Ice Age, making them one of the best known mammals of the Pleistocene. Mammoths are believed to have lived, on average, between 60 and 80 years. Ever wonder why mammoths looks so similar to, yet different from, elephants? The mammoths adaptations for cold environmentsand the elephants adaptations for heatmake the two surprisingly different. Besides their shaggy fur and mouth specially structured for grazing on tough grasses, the mammoths ears were significantly smaller than those of the elephant, whose large ears are an important thermoregulator. Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell with a black beauty box. 99.99% pure silver. Glen Loates (reverse), Susanna Blunt (obverse).
