This is Canada: Wondrous Waters. The series explores the Wondrous Waters that surround us – from Canada’s Pacific shores to our northern waters, and from the eastern seaboard to our southernmost lakes, capturing our coastal terrain and the wildlife that thrives on each coast. Highlighting the theme of exploring Canada, compass elements surround the engraved designs. This first coin in the series takes us to British Columbia for a view of Canada’s Pacific coast. Artist Glen Green, this iconic coastal view shows a pod of orcas in the waters near a rocky island, while in the background, mighty forests and mountains line the shore. The obverse is one of the last coins to feature the posthumous effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Mintage is limited to 7,500 coins. This first coin in the series is also the only one to feature the posthumous effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, while the following three coins will feature the effigy of King Charles III. December is a month of garlands and wreaths crafted from evergreen boughs and their’fruits’ the spruce, fir and pinecones. These coniferous trees were once powerful symbols of life that survived winter’s cold and darkest days. Ancient peoples lit fires and decorated their homes with evergreens to provide warmth and to preserve the promise of spring to come. As the fruit of an evergreen tree, pine cones represented re-birth and re-generation. Even in today’s technology-centered world, the pine cone provides a compelling connection to the essence of nature, a reminder of the hope and comfort that lie in the eternal cycle of life. 2023 Canada 5 Cent 1947 Maple Leaf Mark – 2oz Pure Silver Coin with FREE BONUS original 1947 Maple Leaf five cent coin. Just as 2023 represents a year of transition for Canadian coinage with the final issues of the late Queen Elizabeth II, 1947 was also a year of significant change for Canadian coins. This two ounce fine silver coin with selective gold plating provides an interesting historical retrospective of the changes made to our five cent denomination more than 75 years ago. Mintage is limited to just 5,500 coins. From the first appearance of King George VI on Canadian coins in 1937 through to 1947, the Latin motto around the portrait of the King read GEORGIVS VI. D:G: REX ET IND: IMP. This translates to George VI, By the Grace of God (Dei Gratia), King and Emperor of India. However, when India gained independence from Britain on August 15, 1947, the title of the King needed to be changed. While the original design coins could be continued until the end of 1947, new dies with a changed motto were still not ready in early 1948. With a need for coinage for circulation, the Royal Canadian Mint decided to continue to issue 1947 coinage into early 1948, showing the new issue with a maple leaf added after the date. By the fall of 1948, new 1948 coinage went into production with the modified motto “GEORGIVS VI DEI GRATIA REX” (George VI, By the Grace of God King). The 1947 maple leaf reverse design features a proof quality rendition of Canada’s familiar beaver that has appeared on our coinage for over 85 years, while the obverse features His Majesty King George VI with the date 2023. The dragon is one of the most beloved and significant symbols in Chinese culture. This celestial, supernatural power is associated with countless legends. It symbolizes success, good fortune and wisdom, its greatest gift of all. The magical dragon is always associated with the emperor, the ruling class or supreme power. It can become invisible and change its size and colour at will. The dragon also rules the seas and guards a great treasure hidden at its depths – the pearl. In Chinese culture, the pearl symbolizes perfection, the highest form of wisdom. As such, it must reside with the dragon who, like the emperor, reveals great “pearls of wisdom” as it bestows abundance and prosperity upon Canada’s newest generation of immigrants. The dragon also represents good fortune as well as success, prosperity and wisdom. Original packaging and CoA included. Citadel Coins Halifax, Nova Scotia Official Royal Canadian Mint Distributor.

To scientists, they are six-sided dendrite ice crystals; to children, they are the beginnings of snowmen and fun-filled toboggan rides; to Canada, they are its most defining climatic feature. But to the observant eye, the one that delves into that great blanket of white, snowflakes are tiny sculptures of incredible beauty; so intricate they have been the focus of much scientific study. Scientists will explain that as water vapour freezes within a cloud, temperature, wind and humidity will influence the size and shape of the ice crystals that fall to the ground. Sometimes they will clump together to form large, wet flakes. Or, they’ll fall as dry, powdery snow. But if the temperature is around -15 C (5 F) and each ice crystal has the good fortune to grow large and drift gently to the ground without hitting other crystals, the result will be a flurry of endless masterpieces those iconic star-shaped snowflakes that take our breath away. Star-shaped snowflakes may appear to have endless shapes and forms, but they all maintain their hallmark shape; and none of their branches are ever exactly the same. Science has clearly established this, but the best way to experience the wonder of snowflakes is to stand outdoors on a perfect winter day; when the air is calm and snow is falling and countless fleeting masterpieces land on your glove to be admired.
