No, this coin is not proof. But it looks like it is! I tried to take photos under different lighting conditions so that you get as an accurate picture of the coin as possible. I don’t edit the photos, other than centering them. The color differences are differences of how the coin looks in different lighting.
Explore the mid-century charm of Canadian numismatics with this set of four 50 cent silver coins, spanning the years 1951 to 1954. Each coin is a piece of history, featuring the last two years of King George VI’s reign and the first two years of Queen Elizabeth II. These circulated pieces are composed of 80% silver, offering a glimpse into the craftsmanship of the era. The set remains uncertified and ungraded, allowing collectors the opportunity to assess the coins’ qualities personally. With no fine detailing or variety-specific certification, this collection provides an authentic and raw look into Canada’s past monetary heritage. These coins are a tangible connection to the country’s rich history and the evolution of its monarchic succession.
Just 7,500 of this unusual one ounce pure silver collector edition five cent beaver coin have been released as part of a new series that includes all of Canada’s regular coin denominations. The coin includes a “W” mint mark to highlight that the coin was struck at the Royal Canadian Mint in Winnipeg, while most collector coins are struck at the Mint’s Ottawa location. The background field includes straight lines meeting on an angle in the centre inspired by the striking exterior of the Mint’s Winnipeg facility. The obverse features the new effigy of His Majesty King Charles III. NumisCan Coins and Banknotes is committed to providing an exceptional experience every time you shop with us. 2023 Canada 5 Cent 1947 Maple Leaf Mark – 2oz Pure Silver Coin with FREE BONUS original 1947 Maple Leaf five cent coin. Just as 2023 represents a year of transition for Canadian coinage with the final issues of the late Queen Elizabeth II, 1947 was also a year of significant change for Canadian coins. This two ounce fine silver coin with selective gold plating provides an interesting historical retrospective of the changes made to our five cent denomination more than 75 years ago. Mintage is limited to just 5,500 coins. From the first appearance of King George VI on Canadian coins in 1937 through to 1947, the Latin motto around the portrait of the King read GEORGIVS VI. D:G: REX ET IND: IMP. This translates to George VI, By the Grace of God (Dei Gratia), King and Emperor of India. However, when India gained independence from Britain on August 15, 1947, the title of the King needed to be changed. While the original design coins could be continued until the end of 1947, new dies with a changed motto were still not ready in early 1948. With a need for coinage for circulation, the Royal Canadian Mint decided to continue to issue 1947 coinage into early 1948, showing the new issue with a maple leaf added after the date. By the fall of 1948, new 1948 coinage went into production with the modified motto “GEORGIVS VI DEI GRATIA REX” (George VI, By the Grace of God King). The 1947 maple leaf reverse design features a proof quality rendition of Canada’s familiar beaver that has appeared on our coinage for over 85 years, while the obverse features His Majesty King George VI with the date 2023.
