Canada 2013 $20 Fine Silver Coins -Autumn Bliss & Maple Canopy (spring)

With a graceful pageantry that has long captured the imagination of poets and artists, the brilliant foliage of autumn in Canada has made the nation a fall destination for visitors from around the world. As the final harvest nears an end, flushed from coast to coast with showy russets, warm coppers, intense purples, vibrant golds and glossy greens, Canada’s beauty in autumn is perhaps surpassed only when this riot of colour is doubled in the silver mirror of a still lake. This coin was designed by Canadian artist Tony Bianco and features a striking autumn scene on a still Canadian lake. In the foreground, a red canoe sits on a shoreline of tall yellow grasses and white late-summer flowers, beside a golden-leaved aspen stand. The canoe floats on the shallows of a still lake, its bow drawing the eye towards the far (or opposite) shoreline. This distant shore is lined with impressionistic pops of bright red, green and yellow that are reflected in the lake below. On the horizon, indigo mountains rise toward a cloudy autumn sky. In the sky above the lake, an osprey spreads its wings in flight, a work of exceptional artistry and detail in and of itself. Devised to benefit from the coin’s silver surface, the design combines skilful painting and careful engraving to render a painterly scene that captures the sparkling mood of this ephemeral moment. Face Value: 20 dollars. Composition: 99.99% fine. Weight (g): 31.39. This coin is the first in the Royal Canadian Mint’s exciting new series showcasing Canada’s magnificent maple trees from an entirely new and unique perspective, adding creative interest to this ever-popular Canadian icon. This coin is certified to be 99.99% pure silver with a diameter of 38 millimetres and a metal weight of 31.39 grams. The reverse design by Canadian artist Emily Damstra presents the classic Canadian maple from a novel angle, looking upward at the trunk and tree canopy from below. The lower half of the reverse image is dominated by the gnarled trunk of a massive maple tree. Its thick branches reach upward and outward toward the canopy which, in the perspective of the image, appears in the distant background against the sky. Trunk, branches, and leaves are rendered in textural and tonal detail to reinforce the image’s sense of height and depth. The design fills the entire reverse field and is engraved with the word’CANADA,’ the date’2013,’ and the face value of’20 DOLLARS. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. Composition: 99.99% fine silver. Pure Silver Coin: Canadian Confederation Medals: JUVENTAS ET PATRIUS VIGOR: The 1867 Confederation Medal. On July 1, 1927, the Dominion of Canada marked 60 years of progress under the banner of Confederation. Festivities across the country offered proof of a strengthening sense of national pride and identitya spirit beautifully preserved in a table medal from the by-gone era: the Diamond Jubilee of the Confederation of Canada Medal. Re-created here on the coin’s reverse, the medal’s Art Deco-inspired design makes it a stunning part of Canada’s medallic history. On the 150th anniversary of Confederation, we pay tribute to a tradition of celebration with a tribute to this artefact from another historic yearthe year of Canada’s Diamond Jubilee! AN EXQUISITE TRIBUTE TO CANADA’S FIRST ARTIFACT! Your coin is a faithful tribute to the table medal’s original design by world-renowned engravers J. Wyon of London, England. Inspired by the rich medallic traditions of the 16th century, the design features allegorical representations of Great Britain and the fledgling Dominion of Canada. Britannia, Great Britain’s timeless allegory, is peacefully seated and is adorned with a helmet and armour. She holds a trident on her right as a shield ornamented with the Royal Union Flag rests on her side. A lion, the stalwart symbol of Great Britain, is seated at Britannia’s feet and is resting its head on her knees. Britannia is presenting a figurative representation of the British North American Act that reads CONFEDERATION. The CONFEDERATION scroll is being bestowed upon four young maidens, who gaze cherishingly upon the matronly Britannia. The maidens represent the four original provinces in the British North America Act (clockwise from the top): Ontario with a sickle and sheaf symbolizing agriculture; Quebec holding a canoe paddle that represented commerce of the era; Nova Scotia with a shovel representing its rich mining; and New Brunswick with an axe, a representation of forestry. The design also features the Latin adage JUVENTAS ET PATRIUS VIGOR, or YOUTH AND PATRIOTIC STRENGTH, as was presented on the original design in 1867. While the obverse of the original 1867 medal featured the single effigy of Queen Victoria, the reigning monarch at the time of Confederation, the obverse of this new coin features the dual effigies of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt and Queen Victoria by Leonard Charles Wyon. The obverse also includes the cypher used by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and the cypher that was used by Queen Victoria. Each cypher is ensigned with a crown depicted in a style specifically used by each monarch. Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell with a Canada 150 beauty box. Composition: 99.99% pure silver. Weight (g): 311.54. Diameter (mm): 76.25. Face value: 100 dollars. Wyon (reverse), Susanna Blunt and Leonard Charles Wyon (obverse). The item “1867- 2017 Canada 10 oz Pure Silver Coin The 1867 Confederation Medal. Anyone who has ever had the good fortune to catch a snowflake on their glove knows that its intricate shape can take your breath away. As water vapour freezes within a cloud, temperature, wind and humidity will influence the size and shape of the ice crystals that fall to the ground. Sometimes they will clump together to form large, wet flakes. Or, they’ll fall as dry, powdery snow. But if the conditions are just right and the ice crystals can grow large and drift gently earthward without clumping together, the result is a flurry of endless masterpieces-those elaborate star – shaped flakes. The unassuming snowflake yields significant influence wherever it falls. It defines Canada’s geography, wildlife, environment and economy, demanding significant research efforts to understand how snow and ice work – and how to function within the challenging conditions they create. With so much of its activity dependent upon and shaped by winter’s frozen marvels, Canada has become known internationally for its scientific contributions to snow and ice research, such as the world’s most accurate gauge for recording snowfall and automated sensors that measure snow accumulation and melt on major glaciers and ice sheets. Yet, despite the science, Canada’s love of the simple snowflake prevails. Royal Canadian Mint Engraver Konrad Wachelko has recreated a six-sided dendrite ice crystal, often referred to by many as a snowflake. There are two coins available which are both made with CrystallizedTM Swarovski Elements overlaying the’snowflake’ with either six aquamarine or six iridescent crystals and one central clear crystal.
