DOGBANE BEETLE Little Creatures Venetian Murano 1 Oz Silver Coin 20$ Canada 2017

This lovely Silver coin is the second issue in the Little Creatures series and features the Dogbane Beetle, a cute and little creature who can be found in our own backyards and gardens. The coin features a beautiful Murano glass insert, has a Proof quality and comes in a lovely case, along with the Certificate of Authenticity. Limited mintage to 8.500 pieces worldwide. This coins reverse design is punctuated by a shimmering Venetian glass Beetle that was handcrafted by master glassmaker Giuliano Donaggio in Murano, Italy. The glass Beetle is poised on a coloured design by Canadian artist Maurice Gervais that features the leaves and pink, bellshaped flowers of the Dogbane plant, one of the Beetles preferred food sources. On top of the reverse, the inscriptions: 20 DOLLARS the face value and 2017 the year of issue. On the bottom, the inscription: CANADA the issue country. The obverse of the coin depicts the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the inscriptions: D·G·REGINA Dei Gratia Regina and ELIZABETH II the name of the Queen. Leaf Beetle The family Chrysomelidae, commonly known as leaf beetles, includes over 37,000 (and probably at least 50,000) species in more than 2,500 genera, making it one of the largest and most commonly encountered of all beetle families. Numerous subfamilies are recognized, but only some of them are listed below and the precise taxonomy and systematics are likely to change with ongoing research. Leaf beetles are partially recognizable by their tarsal formula, which appears to be 4-4-4, but is actually 5-5-5 as the 4th tarsal segment is very small and hidden by the 3rd. As with many taxa, there is no single character that defines the Chrysomelidae; instead it is delineated by a set of characters. Some lineages are only distinguished with difficulty from longhorn beetles (family Cerambycidae), namely by the antennae not arising from frontal tubercles. Adult and larval leaf beetles feed on all sorts of plant tissue, and all species are fully herbivorous. Many are serious pests of cultivated plants, for example the Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata), the asparagus beetle (Crioceris asparagi), the cereal leaf beetle (Oulema melanopus), and various flea beetles, and a few act as vectors of plant diseases. Others are beneficial due to their use in biocontrol of invasive weeds. Some Chrysomelidae are conspicuously colored, typically in glossy yellow to red or metallic blue-green hues, and some (especially Cassidinae) have spectacularly bizarre shapes. Thus, they are highly popular among insect collectors. The item “DOGBANE BEETLE Little Creatures Venetian Murano 1 Oz Silver Coin 20$ Canada 2017″ is in sale since Wednesday, March 8, 2017. A TECHNICAL WONDER, TOO! A proud showcase of our artistic and technical capabilities as the hidden night scene is made possible by carefully integrating black light and glow-in-the-dark technology into the colour-over-engraved image! Rendered in a traditional style, your coin ignites a sense of nostalgia among those who have experienced the spellbinding nature of Niagara Falls. And while the art itself makes for a beautiful coin, the seamless integration of glow-in-the-dark technologies and the hidden image will intrigue any of your friends and family seeking a truly unique viewing experience! The Royal Canadian Mint certifies all of its collector coins. Most of these are serialized certifications, meaning that each certificate is given a unique number, starting at 1. Limited to 5,000 coins worldwide. Your coin is crafted from two ounces of 99.99% pure silver. Your coin is GST/HST exempt. You can almost hear the thunderous roar of rushing water in this reverse design by Tony Bianco. The elevated view provides a sweeping panorama of the Horseshoe Falls in its near entirety. Theres a sense of movement above the falls, where the powerful current of the upper Niagara River and the Cascade Rapids sends water racing over the crescent-shaped cataract. Bordered by Goat Island on the left and the Ontario shore on the right, the world-famous waterfall naturally commands attention as a tremendous volume of water tumbles over the crestline and into the river below, releasing cooling plumes of mist into the air. A full colour application only adds to the picture-perfect setting, where the water is nearly as blue as the sky above. But there is a hidden element to this design: a selective application of photoluminescent (glow-in-the-dark) and black light technologies allows for a second viewing of the scene, this time at night. A tradition since 1925, the nightly illumination of the falls adds an array of candy-like colours to the water while Canadas longest running fireworks series lights up the night sky, embodying the pride that many Canadians have for one of our most famous natural wonders. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. “Niagara” is likely a derivative of the word “Onguiaahra, ” which comes from a dialect in the Iroquoian language group. Its believed meaning is “the Strait” or “Neck”a reference to either the Niagara River or the land bridge between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. Straddling the international border between Canada and the United States, Niagara Falls comprises three waterfalls but only one is predominantly on the Canadian side: the picturesque Horseshoe Falls. This is also the largest of the three, with a rim measuring 670 metres across compared to the 260 metre-wide American Falls. In 1925, lights were installed on the roof of one of the Ontario Power Companys surge tanks to illuminate Niagara Falls and extend viewing time after dark. Since then, the original searchlights have been replaced with new technology, including LED lighting installed in December 2016 to provide brighter lights and a wider colour spectrum. The Falls are also lit in symbolic colours to mark special occasion such as Canada Day, or in support of a charitable cause. Water levels are carefully regulated. During peak hours (and during the tourist season), one could see over 168,000 cubic metres of water per minute pour down at a speed of 109 kilometres or 68 miles per hour! Less than one percent of the water flowing over Niagara Falls is renewed each year; the rest is fossil water or meltwater from the last glacial period 12,000 years ago, when the retreating ice carved out the Great Lakes region. The waters aquamarine colour is due to its erosive nature: roughly 60 tons of finely ground rock, dissolved salts and minerals are carried over the limestone crestline every minute! The Falls continue to erode the rocksome scientists have speculated that 50,000 years from now, the Horseshoe Falls will have withdrawn far enough to be reduced to little more than rapids! Barrel or no barrel, it is illegal (and dangerous) to deliberately attempt to go over Niagara Falls. A few daredevils have survived, but fish are better suited to taking the plungeand they do! The lighter, more pliable body of a fish is able to withstand the pressure, while air bubbles at the base of the waterfall helps cushion their fall. Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell with a black beauty box. 99.99% pure silver. I do leave feedback for everyone. 99.99% Pure Silver Coin. All coins offered in this listing are unsearched! (see Additional Information below). All of our Canadian coins are acquired directly from the Royal Canadian Mint – The counterfeiting of numismatic coins, and the sale of stolen coins, are serious problems for coin collectors and dealers. Unlike many other coin dealers. To protect against these risks, we do not sell’second-hand’ coins. All of our Canadian coins are stored in a climate controlled, smoke-free vault. Composition – gold (99.99% pure). Weight (g) – 31.39 (1 troy ounce). Diameter (mm) – 38. Certificate – serialized (serial numbers will vary). Face value – 20 dollars (a legal tender Canadian coin). Artists – Julius Csotonyi (reverse), Susanna Blunt (obverse). The scimitar cat (Homotherium serum) is arguably one of the most awe-inspiring animals of the Ice Age. Famous for its knife-like fangs, the scimitar cat’s teeth were shorter than those of the better known sabre-tooth cat, Smilodon fatalis, but were equally lethal: its sabres were coarsely serrated, just like a steak knife, making them perfectly suited for slicing through the soft flesh of its prey. This fierce feline was a master at pursuing prey, which consisted of ungulates such as horses and camels. The scimitar cat would charge from behind a bush or tall grasses with blinding swiftness, bowl over its intended prey and slash the throat with its lethal canines. Then, once the uproar subsided, the cat dragged its latest meal to its den. It was roughly the size of a lion, but with a lighter body that gave it more running flexibility than its Ice Age cousins, other sabre-tooth cats, and the American lion. It had a short tail like a lynx, and long, powerful forelimbs but slightly shorter hind legs that gave it a hyena-like stance. Having gone extinct sometime between 13,000 and 11,000 years ago, the scimitar cat’s demise was likely linked to the extinction of the large Ice Age herbivores. To ensure a high degree of scientific accuracy, the design of this coin was verified by palaeontologists of the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Alberta. Unmatched detail is achieved through the technically demanding application of multiple finishes: highlights shine and shadows deepen while the depth and texture of the scimitar’s facial features are enhanced. For our Canadian customers, this coin is GST/HST exempt. Canadian artist Julius Csotonyi has crafted a heart-stopping portrait of a roaring scimitar cat, with its mouth open wide as it bares its lethal teeth and scimitars. The details are exquisite: luxurious fur, piercing eyes, razor-sharp teeth and a roughly textured tongue are all beautifully rendered with finely detailed engraving. Each coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clam-shell case protected by a custom beauty box. Best Offer Pricing When we offer final marked-down sale prices that are lower than our minimum Best Offer price, eBays system isnt always capable of removing the Best Offer feature. Unsearched All of the coins offered in this listing are unsearched. Many coin dealers search all coins when they are received from the Mint. They “cherry-pick” the best coins. Then submit them to be graded, certified, and slabbed by PCGS, NGC, ANACS, etc. When a dealer searches coins, those that they sell in original Mint packaging are only lesser quality coins. Photos: When a listing offers multiples of the same coin, one coin is picked at random and photographed. Since all coins offered in that listing are essentially identical, the coin photographed is representative of all coins offered. Surface areas that appear black on some proof coin photos are actually highly polished, mirror-bright metal reflecting the color of the camera. We often include proof coin photos with the coin slightly tilted to better depict the mirror bright surfaces. However, tilting the coin may resulting one side being slightly out of focus. Whenever possible, we use actual photos of our coins, rather than just stock artwork from the Mint. We frequently update and upgrade the photos that appear with our listings, using improved cameras and lenses and better lighting. We will honor your requests for additional photos as quickly as our schedule permits.
