All of our Canadian coins are acquired directly from the Royal Canadian Mint – The counterfeiting of numismatic coins, and the sale of stolen coins, are serious problems for coin collectors and dealers. Unlike many other coin dealers. To protect against these risks, we do not sell’second-hand’ coins. All of our Canadian coins are stored in a climate controlled, smoke-free vault. Composition – 99.99% pure silver. Finish – color proof. Weight (g) – 31.39 (one troy ounce). Certificate – serial numbered (serial numbers will vary). Face value – 20 dollars (a legal tender Canadian coin). Artist – Trevor Tennant (reverse), Susanna Blunt (obverse). People adore animals, and this fine silver coin will melt hearts all around with its color design of a baby raccoon and its endearing bandit-masked face. Indeed, this baby raccoon will learn how to become a clever scavenger from its mother, who will spend roughly a year showing her kits how to find food. Whether in the country or on a city block, it’s not uncommon for careful observers to catch a glimpse of a mother raccoon leading her brood through the night. The perfect coin to start a young person’s collection! 8th coin in the popular Baby Animals series of fine silver coins that feature heart-warming images of baby animals in the Canadian wilderness. SELECTIVE COLOURING beautifully complements the detailed engraving and adds a life-like quality to this depiction of a baby raccoon and mother in a wetland setting. 99.99% PURE SILVER! Each coin is crafted from 99.99% pure silver with a limited mintage worldwide! For our Canadian customers, this coin is GST/HST exempt. Designed by Canadian artist Trevor Tennant, this coin depicts a young raccoon alongside its mother on a summer evening in their wetland habitat. As the sunset casts a golden glow upon the water in the background, this raccoon family begins its nocturnal activities. Both raccoons are beautifully rendered with fine detailed engraving that captures their soft expressions and the texture of their fur. A three-quarter profile provides a magnificent view of the young raccoon’s features, while selective coloring brings to life its gray-brown fur and distinctive markings – particularly its dark-colored eye mask and ringed tail. The adult raccoon stands to the right of her young, ever attentive to any signs of danger as the kit is poised on a rock along the water’s edge, near the green vegetation that provides shelter for some of the aquatic creatures that sustain them in the wild. Raccoons don’t quite hibernate but they do sleep longer during cold winters; they will eat more to build up fat reserves ahead of winter’s advance. Raccoons are excellent swimmers – but only if they have to! They do, however, have a curious habit of dipping their food at times in water. Hunted for their fur as well as meat in parts of their range, a few dedicated raccoon hunters tell tall? Tales of especially large raccoons luring coon hounds into deep water and then climbing on their heads to drown these valuable dogs. They’re omnivorous, with a diet that could include berries, nuts, seeds, insects, eggs, birds, mice, fruits, and vegetables; but their favorite foods include fish, crayfish, frogs, clams, and snails. On average, a raccoon has a life expectancy of about five years. Raccoon populations can grow very quickly when adequate food and shelter permit. We have seen as many as thirty raccoons visiting our deer feeder at the same time! Raccoons move along the ground by walking on the entirety of their foot. Younger nature lovers are delighted to find the distinctive hand-like tracks of raccoons along the muddy banks of streams and ponds. Raccoon paws are very dextrous, allowing their toes to open shells, trashcans, and even open a jar or untie a shoe! Their dexterity also provides the ability to open cages unless they are equipped with special raccoon-proof latches! Very adaptable to living close to people, raccoons are present in many urban and suburban areas in large numbers. They should never be approached, however, as rabies is widespread among these masked bandits. Each coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell with a black beauty box. Photos: When a listing offers multiples of the same coin, one coin is picked at random and photographed. Since all coins offered in that listing are essentially identical, the coin photographed is representative of all coins offered. Surface areas that appear black on some proof coin photos are actually highly polished, mirror-bright metal reflecting the color of the camera. We often include proof coin photos with the coin slightly tilted to better depict the mirror bright surfaces. However, tilting the coin may resulting one side being slightly out of focus. Whenever possible, we use actual photos of our coins, rather than just stock artwork from the Mint. We frequently update and upgrade the photos that appear with our listings, using improved cameras and lenses and better lighting. We will honor your requests for additional photos as quickly as our schedule permits. Unsearched All of the coins offered in this listing are unsearched. Many coin dealers search all coins when they are received from the Mint. They “cherry-pick” the best coins. Then submit them to be graded, certified, and slabbed by PCGS, NGC, ANACS, etc. When a dealer searches coins, those that they sell in original Mint packaging are only lesser quality coins. 1945-2020 75th Anniversary of VE Day $1 Proof Pure Silver Dollar Coin Canada

Store Category: World Wars. May 8, 1945: After years of wartime sacrifices, the first opportunity to celebrate peace had finally come. News of the wars end in Europe unleashed a wave of joy and relief that swept over both sides of the Atlantic, spilling into countries that Canada had helped liberate. People were cheering, some were standing numb, some were hugging, tears coming down their faces and people crying. The war was over! Clarence Mitchell, Royal Canadian Navy. Introducing the 2020 75th Anniversary of Victory in Europe (V-E) Day collection. Our 2020 75th Anniversary of Victory in Europe (V-E) Day collection is the multi-part story of Canada in 1945a story of wartime contributions and a peacetime legacy. It begins on the 2020 Proof Dollar, where the design strikes a balance between celebration and remembrance and sets the tone for coins to come. Our own past is present, with the 1945 Victory nickel serving as the inspiration for design elements that are the hallmarks of this collectionfrom the Victory privy mark to the holographic decal on each beauty box. This is our way of paying tribute to all who contributed to the fight for freedom, wherever Canada was needed. Inspired by the 1945 Victory nickel, a large V for Victory dominates your 2020 Proof Silver Dollar. OUR FLAGSHIP PRODUCT SETS THE TONE: Our flagship product sets the tone for a yearlong commemoration of a major anniversary in 2020: the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe. THE END IS THE BEGINNING: Your proof dollar is the starting point for a historical journey that spans several coins in 2020. It is the story of Canada leading up to V-E Day, of a nations contributions and its reaction to the end of the Second World War in Europe. WE CELEBRATE THE END OF THE WAR IN EUROPE: We remember the fallen. Every branch of the Canadian Armed Forces is represented in the three silhouettes on this coin. NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE: A new engraving technique made it possible to fade out the crowd at the top without impacting the silhouettes in the bottom portion. A VICTORY PRIVY MARK: Every coin in our 2020 V-E Day collectionincluding your Proof Dollarfeatures a special privy mark that was inspired by the 1945 Victory nickel. An updated version of the historic 5-cent coin is available as part of the 2020 Proof Dollar Set , which includes a selectively gold-plated version of this proof dollar. ANOTHER NOD TO OUR HISTORY: Canadas Victory nickel also inspired the V seen on this coins reverse. INCLUDES HOLOGRAPHIC V-E DAY DECAL: A holographic V-E Day decal extends the celebration beyond the coin and onto the beauty box. This logo is the hallmark of our 2020 V-E Day collection. HISTORIC OBVERSE: Another collection-wide feature is the obverse design, which features the effigy of the reigning monarch in 1945. INCLUDES SERIALIZED CERTIFICATE: The Royal Canadian Mint certifies all of its collector coins. LIMITED MINTAGE: Only 20,000 coins are available worldwide. 99.99% PURE SILVER COIN: Your coin has been expertly crafted in 99.99% pure silver with a proof finish that accentuates every detail to stunning effect. Inspired by the 1945 Victory nickel, a large V for Victory dominates the reverse design by artist Pandora Young. The crowd represents jubilation on the home front on May 8, 1945, a day when Canadians poured into streets and public places to celebrate Victory in Europe (V-E) Day. The spontaneous celebration gradually fades behind the V to become a scene of remembrance, with three silhouettes representing the different branches (navy, army and air force) of the Canadian and British Armed Forces in which Canadians and Newfoundlanders served. The obverse features the effigy of King George VI by T. Paget and a Victory privy mark. I was moved by the opportunity to commend all who supported, hoped, sacrificed and finally celebrated on the home front between 1939 and 1945especially since there are fewer opportunities to commemorate the roles women and children played in Canadas war effort. While designing this coin, I studied scenes of V-E Day celebrations in Canada and other Allied countries, and strove to recapture some of that exuberance and joy! Theres no real way to fade out a design so I had to create a raised surface or plateau that was about 50 microns higher than the field any higher risked interfering with the strike. This is something weve never done before but it gave us the right volume of material to achieve a sharp impression on the bottom half of the coin. Dressed in her Womens Auxiliary Territorial Services uniform, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II (then Princess Elizabeth) was secretly among the crowd that celebrated V-E Day outside Buckingham Palace in London. V-E Day marks the end of the war in Europe but not the end of the Second World War. War continued in the Pacific until Imperial Japans surrender on August 15, 1945, also known as Victory Over Japan (V-J) Day. Canada played a limited role in the Pacific but was preparing to transfer a large force from Europe when the war ended. V-E Day celebrations had a false start on April 28 when rumours of Germanys surrender proved to be premature. While May 8 was officially designated V-E Day (and a public holiday), some Canadians began celebrating on May 7, the day the surrender agreement was signed in Reims, France. Between 1939 and 1945, more than a million Canadians and Newfoundlanders served in the Second World War. Over 45,000 lost their lives while 55,000 more were wounded. The war touched every aspect of life in Canada and shaped who we are today. Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded clamshell with a black beauty box. 99.99% pure silver. Pandora Young (reverse), Susanna Blunt (obverse). The sight of a magnificent mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus) foraging by the roadside or in a nearby meadow provides a memorable encounter for any nature and animal lover. Named for its long ears that resemble those of a mule, the mule deer is a creature of great beauty and majestic stature. With this breathtaking silver coin, the Royal Canadian Mint celebrates a remarkable animal whose presence only adds to the remarkable beauty found in Canadas great outdoors. The predominant deer species throughout western Canada and southern portions of the Yukon, the mule deer roams the mountains, forests and grasslands in search of the grasses, herbs, foliage, mushrooms and lichen that make up its plant-based diet. In the winter, old-growth forests and shrub-land provide shelter for groups of mule deer; in the summer, the deer often opt to move to higher elevations where they can forage for new growth. A breathtaking mix of traditional engraving, stunning high-definition color, frosted elements and an immaculate proof finish. By using a rich color over the engraved surface, the mule deer and their surroundings are brought to life with added depth and definition in an already stunning design. Beautifully designed by Canadian artist Trevor Tennant, this Canadian wildlife-inspired coin is a must-have addition for any nature or animal lover in your family. A low mintage of only 6,500 makes this coin especially exclusive. For our Canadian customers, this coin is GST/HST exempt. The reverse image by Canadian artist Trevor Tennant recreates the breathtaking colours of an autumn morning in one of western Canadas many forests. Here, a male and female mule deer have made their way to lower elevations where they have entered a foothills meadow to forage. The early morning light creates a blue cast on the misty scenery, softening the vibrant autumn colours of the surrounding foliage. In the foreground, the buck stands tall and attentive to any sound, turning its head to the left, while a doe follows behind in the background; with the annual rutting season soon approaching, this males swollen neck and large rack already contribute to its imposing stature, making him the dominant male within his territory. Adding a beautiful overlay of colour to the engraved design allows the viewer to glimpse the mule deers distinctive characteristics, from the dark tan-coloured fur with white patches on its throat and face, to the long black-rimmed ears and the bucks forked antlers. The mule deer measures almost a meter high at the shoulder. In its prime, an adult male (or buck) may weigh up to 180 kilograms, while a female (doe) weighs between 50 and 75 kilograms. The mule deer has been nicknamed jumper for its stiff-legged stride and its jumping reaction when alarmed. It is an excellent swimmeron occasion, a doe will swim to islands to give birth far from known predators, while others have been known to swim between islands that are up to 25 kilometers apart! Mule deer have better night vision than humans, but we have better daytime and color vision. We lose again when it comes to our sense of smell: the mule deers sense of smell may be up to 1,000 times stronger than ours! Measuring 2/3 the length of their head, those large ears give the mule deer acute hearing; they are very sensitive to sounds, yet they rely more on their sense of smell. The mule deers tan-colored coat darkens through the seasons, becoming a grizzled brown by the winter. Most does will give birth every year after their second year; twin fawns are the norm, or occasionally triplets! The Mule deer sheds its antlers every year between January and March; they regrow April through Augustin time for the rutting season in November! Each coin is encapsulated and presented in a maroon clamshell protected by a custom graphic beauty box. Check out my other items. Be sure to add me to your favorites list.
