Pure Silver Colored Proof Coin. Composition : 99.99% pure silver. Weight (g): 62.69 (two troy ounces). Certificate: serial numbered (serial numbers will vary). Face value: 30-dollars (a legal tender Canadian coin). Artists: Emily Damstra (reverse), Susanna Blunt (obverse). Standing tall in eastern forests, the sugar maple is as hardy as the people it represents. Canadas arboreal emblem is magnificent in the summer, when branches that have weathered wild winds and cold winters reach ever higher into the sky. Its broad leaves form a dense canopy that filters the suns warm rays on in the coins design, allowing light to spill down through the gaps and create an inspiring view from the ground. Step into a maple grove and look up in awe overhead! Similar design and color 1 oz. Pure Silver Mintage: 7,500. AN IMMERSIVE VIEWING EXPERIENCE! This coin pulls the viewer into the summer scene by creating the impression of standing beneath the towering maple trees and looking up at the vaulted canopy of leaves overhead! INSPIRED BY A NATURAL PHENOMENON! A thin gap in the colored foliage allows the proof silver finish to mimic the effect of filtered sunlight, which forms a maple leaf among the leaves! THE BIGGEST CANOPY YET! This coins 50 mm diameter makes it the largest of all of the Royal Canadian Mints canopy-themed coins to date! A STUNNING MIX OF ENGRAVING AND COLOR! While finely detailed engraving adds life-like texture to the tree trunks and branches, the coins polished surface stands in for sunlight shining down between the colored foliage. The Royal Canadian Mint certifies all of its collector coins. Most of these are serialized certifications, meaning that each certificate is given a unique number, starting at 1. Limited to 3,500 coins worldwide. Each coin is crafted from two troy ounces of 99.99% pure silver and, for our Canadian customers, is GST/HST exempt. Designed by artist Emily Damstra, the coin showcases the picturesque beauty of the sugar maple tree (Acer saccharum) on a bright summer day. The unique perspective creates the impression of standing at the base of an iconic Canadian tree, and looking up at the engraved trunks and branches that reach ever higher into the cloudless sky. Inspired by the natural phenomenon of crown shyness, the colored maple canopy is marked by thin borders of light that form a distinctive shape among the leaves, where the shine of a proof finish stands in for sunlight. The reverse includes the engraved word CANADA. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. Crown shyness is a natural phenomenon that occurs when the crowns of closely spaced trees (often of the same species) do not touch each other. Instead, a thin border of light forms around each trees upper foliage, dividing the canopy into fragments. One theory suggests that this type of gap is formed when branches sway in the wind, collide, and then break. Although the maple leaf first appeared on Canadas flag in 1965, the symbol has been associated with Canada and Canadians for far longer. Surprisingly, the ubiquitous maple leaf isnt an official Canadian emblem, but the maple tree (representing the ten species of maple native to Canada) was recognized as Canadas national arboreal emblem in 1996. The largest-sized maple leaf was found in 2010 in Richmond, B. It measured 20.886 inches wide and just over 20.472 long, or more than double the size of a typical maple leaf! Each coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell protected by a black beauty box. Photos: When a listing offers multiples of the same coin, one coin is picked at random and photographed. Since all coins offered in that listing are essentially identical, the coin photographed is representative of all coins offered. These photos were taken through the plastic cling film that protects the coins; any dust, etc. On the outside surface of the capsules doesnt affect the coins. Surface areas that appear black on some proof coin photos are actually highly polished, mirror-bright metal reflecting the color of the camera. We place the coin at an angle, in some photos, to better depict the mirror bright finishes. However, angling the coin usually results in one side of the coin being slightly out of focus. Whenever possible, we use actual photos of our coins, rather than just artists conception drawings from the Mint. We frequently update and upgrade the photos that appear with our listings, using improved cameras and lenses and better lighting. We will honor your requests for additional photos as quickly as our schedule permits. The item “2018 $30 Canadian Canopy The Maple Leaf, 2 oz.
