2023 $20 Fine Silver Coin Saint Edward’s Crown. Expertly Struck by the RCM
The reverse design features a gold-plated embellishment enhanced with coloured glass stones, which represents the front cross pattee from the centuries-old St Edward’s Crown. The obverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. The obverse also bears a special marking that includes four pearls symbolizing the four effigies that graced Canadian coins and the double date of her reign. Edward’s Crown is the most hallowed of all the British Crown Jewels and royal regalia, the St. Edward’s Crown is only used on the monarch’s coronation day. It was commissioned for the coronation of King Charles II in 1661 as a replacement for the original crown, which dated back to King Edward the Confessor (hence the name) but was melted down by parliamentarians in 1649. Edward’s Crown is composed of a solid gold frame set with 444 precious and semi-precious stones, including amethysts, aquamarines, garnet, peridot, rubies, topazes, tourmalines and sapphires. Similar to the medieval crown that inspired its design, the St. Edward’s Crown is distinguished by four crosses pattée (like the one featured on your coin), four fleurs-de-lis and gold bead-adorned arches that surround the ermine-trimmed velvet cap. The coin shines with distinction and is a must for any serious Canadian Coin collector!
2023 $20 Fine Silver Coin Canada’s Unexplained Phenomena The Duncan Incident
Before dawn on the morning of January 1, 1970, a nurse at a hospital in Duncan, B. Opened the curtain in a patient’s room. What she saw next is depicted on this coin’s colour-over-engraved reverse, where the UFO glows brighter when viewed under a black light (NOT included) The nurse described seeing a large saucer-shaped craft with a glass-like dome top. Inside the object, which was estimated to be 50 feet (15 metres) in diameter and illuminated from the bottom, two male-like figures clad in dark cloth appeared to be standing in front of a large panel. Absorbed by the sight, the nurse studied both the craft and its occupants, and soon noticed one of the figures slowly turning to face in her direction. The other figure then reached down to grab hold of a lever, and the tilted craft began to spin in a counter-clockwise direction. She called over another nurse to witness the hovering object just as it silently, and swiftly, moved away, though its lights were still visible to two more witnesses who joined them at the window. Nobody does it like the Royal Canadian Mint! This is the sixth coin in a popular series that brings you some of Canada’s most fascinating tales of unexplained phenomena, from strange sightings to close encounters. The reverse design by Canadian artist Patrick Bélanger depicts the Duncan Incident that occurred before dawn on the morning of January 1, 1970. Parting the curtains, a nurse is shocked to see a big, brightly illuminated craft in the sky, where it is close enough for her to view two occupants standing inside the domed portion. The mysterious object’s colourful lights are amplified when the embedded black light paint technology is activated. The obverse features a wormhole background and the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. The obverse also bears a special marking that includes four pearls symbolizing the four effigies that have graced Canadian coins and the double date of her reign. The coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded clamshell with a black beauty box. Black light NOT included. THIS ITEM IS GST / HST EXEMPT.
