A symbol first used for this land in the 1700, the maple leaf continues to inspire a sense of pride and belonging in the people it represents, and whose endeavours have made the leaf a shining icon of freedom and inclusion. The Royal Canadian Mint proudly celebrates a nation’s 150 years of history through this fine silver coin, whose unique shape recreates Canada’s most revered national emblem. Mintage is limited to only 15,000 pieces. As a pure silver coin struck by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is GST/HST exempt. Careful sculpting and finely detailed engraving capture the natural beauty of sugar maple leaves in all their intricate beauty. A true-to-life recreation of the leaf’s silhouette, the coin’s unusual shape provides a fitting canvas for this celebration of a Canadian icon, whose irregular edges and five palmate lobes have been painstakingly replicated through a labour-intensive process. The reverse design by Canadian artist Joel Kimmel includes multiple engraved maple leaves that fill the entirety of the reverse. The scattered positioning of these leaves deliberately evokes an autumn day, when the leaves have softly tumbled to cover the ground. While the reverse also features the engraved face value “20 DOLLARS” and the year “2017″, the spotlight shines brightly on the three gilded maple leaves that each represent 50 years of Canadian history-a symbolic nod to the 150th anniversary of Confederation. The selective application of gold plating technology further enhances the deeply engraved veining, while giving each leaf a rich golden hue that shines as bright as a sunny autumn day. In the heart of the lunar-esque landscape of the Ungava Peninsula, in Nunavik, Quebec, lies a breathtaking lake with pure blue waters that stand out in any aerial view. Pingualuit Crater Lake was created when a meteorite struck the Earth approximately 1.4 million years ago. The coin design features. The Crystal Eye of Nunavik peering out into space. As soon as you turn on the included black light, you are instantly transported back in time to a first-hand. View of the landscape-altering meteorite, mere moments before it slammed into prehistoric Canada and left an almost perfectly circular impact scar. Designed by Canadian artist Neil Hamelin, the coin features a colorful space view of Pingualuit Crater Lake on the Ungava Peninsula, in Nunavik, Quebec. Above the blue circular lake and its (engraved) surroundings, the detailed depiction of the Moon, the shooting stars and the Milky Way inspire awe for the wonders of the cosmos, and a deeper understanding of both the splendor and vulnerability of Earth. These elements glow when viewed under black light, which reveals a second image: a view of the meteorite on its collision course with Earth and directly above its eventual impact site.
