Famed sculptor Emanuel Hahn’s well-known portrait of a caribou is lifted out of the circular field of Canada’s 25-cent piece and granted the freedom to roam. Adding to its collectability, the mintage is extremely limited to just 1,200. First issued in 1937, this design has been used continuously on Canadian quarters ever since, with a few commemorative exceptions. The caribou has remained the visual signature of Canada’s 25 cent circulation coin for more than 80 years. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt and a pattern of caribou silhouettes.
