Canada – 2016 Illuminated Coral Reef. The mintage of just 4,000 coins for this series has been maintained, adding to its collectability. Coin expert Steven Bromberg has highlighted this coin as his one of his top picks of the year both for artistic appeal and for future value. The deep waters off Canadas western shores teem with some of the planets most abundant and amazing marine biodiversity, including life that creates its own bioluminescence. This large format 54 mm diameter pure silver coin features an amazing underwater image that luminesces when ultraviolet light hits its multiple layers of glow-in-the-dark colouring. A Royal Canadian Mint branded black light flashlight is included with the coin to intensify the glow-in-the-dark magic. The coin contains just over two ounces of pure silver, and is HST/GST exempt. The design by Canadian artist Jesse Koreck features marine species that can be found off Canadas Pacific coast. The scene is viewed from a deep water reef, looking up toward the magnificent turquoise waters of the surface. Some of the vibrantly coloured marine life includes jellyfish, rockfish, and highfin dragonfish swimming among and above the corals. This environment takes on a striking luminescent life under black light. The bioluminescence of the marine life glows in beautiful blues, greens, pinks, and oranges. The obverse is engraved with the word Canada, the date 2016, the face value of 30 Dollars, and features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
