2021 Lest We Forget A Wreath of Remembrance $20 Pure Silver Proof Coin Canada

On the Poppys 100th year as a symbol of Remembrance, we offer this wreath to honour those who have served our country and those who continue to help advance peace around the world. Theirs is a legacy of great trials and sacrifice, but also of hope and heroism. We will never forget their bravery, and with this wreath of forget-me-nots and red poppies, we gratefully acknowledge their service while honouring the memory of the fallen. Selective colour highlights the Poppy of Remembrance on its 100th year. AN ANNUAL RITE OF REMEMBRANCE! For 2021, our annual Remembrance Day coin combines two different floral symbols: forget-me-nots and the red Poppy that has symbolized Remembrance in Canada since 1921. While special frostings add depth to the engraved forget-me-nots, selective colour over relief adds a mournful red to the poppies and fall-like hues to the maple leaf symbol of a nations gratitude. Fine silver coin features precision-etched details and thoughtful touches that transform the delicate-looking flowers into a powerful expression of Remembrance. By using different sizes of flowers, the artist has created a sense of movement that pulls you into the wreath design that invites all Canadians to reflect, remember and never forget. The Royal Canadian Mint certifies all of its collector coins. Design: The reverse design by Canadian artist Caitlin Lindstrom-Milne is a spiralling wreath arrangement of Remembrance flowers: red-coloured poppies and engraved forget-me-nots. Upon a banner bearing the words CANADA and 2021 lies a colourful maple leaf, which symbolizes this nations gratitude to all who serve and have served their country throughout Canadas military history. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. My grandfather was a Second World War veteran so it was crucial that this piece pays tribute to all who served. I wanted to keep the focus on the significance of the Poppy while balancing it with the forget-me-not flowers. But this isnt your typical symmetrical wreath: from right to left, the different sizes of poppies create a sweeping spiralling motion that results in a looser, more artistic composition. As a tattoo artist, Im accustomed to my designs carrying a lot of emotional weight for the client and I love seeing how much joy and happiness it brings them. Im hoping this coin will do the same to those who receive it that it brings them peace and happiness, and does their loved ones justice by honouring everything they did for us. The Poppy has been Canadas Flower of Remembrance since 1921, when the predecessor of the Royal Canadian Legion adopted it as the official Flower of Remembrance. Today, the red Poppy honours the memory of the more than 118,000 Canadian servicemen and women who lost their lives in the line of duty since Confederation. Canada and Newfoundland were separate dominions within the British Empire during the First World War. In the same way the red Poppy is worn on November 11, a blue flower is worn in Newfoundland and Labrador on July 1, Memorial Day, in fulfillment of the promise to never forget a generation lost at the Battle of Beaumont-Hamel in 1916. Packaging : Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded clamshell with a black beauty box. 99.99% pure silver. Caitlin Lindstrom-Milne (reverse), Susanna Blunt (obverse). The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. The poppy (Papaver rhoeas) is a poignant symbol that evokes memories of our veterans, their sacrifices and a mutual longing for peace on this planet we all call home. In designing this coin, I looked to my family’s own wartime experiences to find that emotional space in which I could distil these key concepts of loss, remembrance and hope. A Murano poppy is something weve never done before and the effect is stunning. Theres no mistaking its meaning. And by making sure each poppy stands out, the engraved wreath was our way of representing the many individual stories of sacrifice and remembrance. It was truly an honour to work on this project. Erica Maga, Product Manager, Royal Canadian Mint. Written in 1915, the poem In Flanders Fields by John McCrae of Guelph, Ont. Inspired the international campaign behind the poppy symbol of remembrance. Poppies flourished in Flanders during the Napoleonic Wars but disappeared soon after the battles ended. It was the same with the First World War: bombardments disrupted the chalky soil and infused it with lime from the rubble, thus creating favourable conditions for. To (briefly) appear on the battlefields. In 1921, the Great War Veterans Association in Canadathe predecessor of the Royal Canadian Legionofficially adopted the poppy as a Flower of Remembrance. Today, the poppy honours the memory of the 117,000 Canadian servicemen and women who lost their lives. It is worn during the Remembrance Day period, from the last Friday in October to November 11. If you remember having a lapel poppy with a green centre, youre not wrong: the black centre changed to green in 1980, then back to black again in 2002 to reflect the poppys actual colours. The coin features a wonderful helmet shape, has a beautiful design and comes in an elegant case, along with the Certificate of Authenticity. Limited mintage to 6.500 pieces worldwide. The reverse of the coin Resembles the 1916 Mark I model worn by Canadian combatants, the combat helmet-shaped coin is the result of a careful collaboration between Royal Canadian Mint engravers and engineers. The coins unprecedented, extreme curvature allows for a realistic re-creation (on a much smaller scale) of the bowl-shaped headgear issued to Canadian troops and all British Empire forces in 1916. The reverse provides a view of the top of the now-iconic steel helmet, whose battle-worn appearance is the result of engraved cracks and markings beneath the antique finish that gives it all a distressed look. All around the reverse, the inscriptions: 1918 the year of the war, 2018 the year of issue and LEST WE FORGET the name of the coin. The obverse of the coin resembles the interior of the helmet and depicts the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. All around the coin, the inscriptions: ELIZABETH II the name of the Queen, CANADA the issuing country, D·G·REGINA Dei Gratia Regina and 25 DOLLARS the face value.
