2017 Canada Animals in Moonlight Orcas 2 oz Silver $30 Coin Proof OGP SKU48391
This coin is the third of four in the Royal Canadian Mint’s Animals in the Moonlight Series. 9999 fine silver, this coin is part of a mintage of 4,000 pieces. Stunning Orca design by Jan Poynter. The obverse design is familiar to collectors of Canadian coins. Susanna Blunt’s right-side portrait of Queen Elizabeth II has long been a fixture on the country’s coins. Blunt shows the monarch without a crown or tiara, a departure from other common depictions of her. “ELIZABETH II” and D. REGINA” are included on either side, offering the queen’s name and title, while “CANADA 2017″ and “30 DOLLARS are also inscribed along the rim. Jan Poynter’s reverse design offers a pair of colorful looks at two orcas swimming in waters close to a snow capped mountain range. Both creatures are mostly submerged, but their backs and large dorsal fins are visible. The image that is seen with light includes yellow, orange and purple colors in the sky and the reflection in the water, while the glow-in-the-dark view draws the eye to the snow on the mountains. Second Silver coin of the series Sculpture of Majestic Animals, that takes a uniquely multi-dimensional approach to depicting Canadas iconic most majestic animal species. This huge 65 mm coin, crafted in gold plated Cougar shape, comes in a wooden circular base with black case and Certificate of Authenticity included. Limited worldwide mintage to 1.200 pieces. The reverse design by Canadian big game sculptor Karl Lansing offers a sculptural celebration of an elusive hunter in the wild. Uniquely shaped to resemble a cougar (Puma concolor), this silver, gold-plated embellishment rises up from the coins surface for a stunning, multi-dimensional collecting experience. The cougars muscular appearance is on full display as it slinks close to the ground, its long tail gently curved behind it. While the paused movement belies the cougars ability to pounce with lightning-fast speed, it does allow for a rare view of this secretive species features, including finer details such as the texture of its fur.
