The arctic wolf (Canis lupus arctos) is well suited to winters in Canada’s Far North, thanks in part to a double-layer coat that insulates it against the cold. The distinctive colouring of its pelt provides effective camouflage and allows our wolf to blend in with its surroundings on this fine silver coin, where diamond glitter re-creates the sparkle of the snow-covered landscape. A dusting of fine diamond particles is carefully applied to ensure even layering over select design elements only. This produces an intensely glittering effect that mimics the light-reflecting qualities of snow and ice! – Crafted from 99.99% pure silver, this collectible work of art is an artistic ode to Canada’s northern landscapes and wildlife species. A mix of traditional engraving, selective colour and cutting-edge technology produces a peaceful winter scene that emphasizes the tranquil beauty of a region known for its harsh climate. The diamond glitter is sealed to protect it from the elements and ensure your coin will never lose its sparkle. An outstanding addition to any wildlife-, nature-, Arctic- or Canadiana-themed collection, and a cherished keepsake for the art appreciator or nature enthusiast in your life. The sixth coin in the Royal Canadian Mint’s exclusive Master’s Club Renewed Silver Dollar series re-visits another historic design from our past: the 1980 Arctic Territories Centennial silver dollar coin. Selectively gold plated on this 2 oz. Version, the renewed silver dollar’s polar bear reverse commemorates the 140th anniversary of the transfer of the Arctic islands from the British Government to the Government of the Dominion of Canada. Effective September 1, 1880, the historic land claim transfer significantly expanded Canada’s territory, and it underscored this country’s identity as a northern nation. The reverse is a reproduction of the 1980 silver dollar design by Canadian artist/engraver D. Paterson and features a polar bear in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. The obverse features the historic effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Arnold Machin. The silver dollar issued in 1980 was one of the first Canadian coins to feature a polar bear on its reverse. Two-thirds of the world’s polar bears are found in Canada and some of the largest populations reside along the northwest coast of Baffin Island, the largest of the Arctic islands (it’s also the fifth largest island in the world). Paterson (reverse), Arnold Machin (obverse) Packaging: Packaged in a custom Masters Club beauty box. THIS ITEM IS GST / HST EXEMPT. This is Canada: Wondrous Waters. The series explores the Wondrous Waters that surround us – from Canada’s Pacific shores to our northern waters, and from the eastern seaboard to our southernmost lakes, capturing our coastal terrain and the wildlife that thrives on each coast. Highlighting the theme of exploring Canada, compass elements surround the engraved designs. This design is an artistic representation of Canada’s Arctic coast. The moonlit scene features a berry picker to represent traditional native foods and harvest activities on land, where the flat tundra is punctuated by a pingo. A snowy owl has taken flight, and the tail of a beluga whale appears in the water that lines the shore, which is marked by caribou tracks and those of a polar bear. The beach is also lined with driftwood carried to the Arctic coast by rivers and ocean currents, making it a symbol of interconnectedness. Compass elements form a frame that contains the word “CANADA” and a face value of “20 DOLLARS”. The obverse features the new effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati. Mintage is limited to 7,500 coins. NumisCan Coins and Jewelry is committed to providing an exceptional experience every time you shop with us. The rich diversity of life in the Arctic, Pacific and Atlantic Oceans are an important part of Canada’s maritime heritage. Designed by Canadian artist Tony Bianco, the reverse image peers into the waters off Canada’s northern coast for a glimpse of an iconic marine species. The engraved word “Canada” hangs above a rugged mountain peak, which rises up from the snow and ice-covered shores of the Arctic Ocean. Sweeping over the increasingly shallow water, the breaking swell adds a sense of movement to the design; the motion of the water’s surface also marks a dynamic transition to the underwater realm, where detailed engraving recreates the rock-lined ocean floor. The selective use of gold plating shines the spotlight on three engraved whales: an adult beluga on the left is shown in side profile as it curiously lifts its head above the water, and another lifts its flukes above water while releasing a stream of underwater bubbles from its blowhole, while its curved descent is mimicked by the calf at its side. Mintage: 7,500. Diameter: 38 mm. Weight: 1 oz.
