Designed by artist Joel Kimmel, your coin is based on Stefan Michalaks account of what transpired on May 20, 1967, near Falcon Lake, Manitoba. A full application of colour re-creates the springtime colours of the place where Michalak saw two objects appear in the midday sky. Based on the witnesss descriptions and sketches, the oval-shaped UFO on the reverse has a steel-like appearance as it hovers above him. Black light-activated features complete the story by mimicking the distinctive red glow described by Michalak, while adding a yellow hue to the blast of hot air or gas that knocked the amateur prospector on his back and left him with mysterious burn marks. The reverse includes the engraved word CANADA, the face value 20 DOLLARS and the year 2018. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. Around midday on May 20, 1967, amateur prospector Stefan (Stephen) Michalak was on the hunt for precious metals in Whiteshell Provincial Park when he suddenly noticed two strange objects in the sky. Both glowed with an intense red and glare as they descended from the sky; one abruptly left the scene, but the other landed roughly 50 metres away from Michalak, who moved in to get a closer look. The humming object was described as having a sulphurous smell, and it appeared to be made from a stainless steel-like material. Peering into a brightly lit opening, Michalak heard muffled sounds and tried calling out to them, only to be met with silence. He touched the seamless sides of the craft, which melted the tips of his glove; and when the UFO suddenly lifted off the ground, it emitted a blast of hot air or gas that knocked Michalak on his back, igniting his shirt and causing a grid-like pattern of third-degree burns to his chest. What was the strange craft? Where did it come from? Its a story that has more questions than answers. Michalak never claimed the craft was an alien one; neither did he waver in his account of what he had seen and experienced that day, even under the scrutiny of doctors, scientists, law enforcement officials and other authorities, who could neither corroborate nor disprove the close encounter. Canada is a hotbed of UFO activity! According to a survey, 1,131 UFO sightings were reported in Canada in 2016 but only 4% of these could not be explained. Quebec also leads all other provinces in reported UFO sightings. In 1967 (the same year as the Falcon Lake Incident), the worlds first UFO landing pad was built in St. Another famous Canadian UFO sighting took place in 1967 this time, in Shag Harbour, N. Where a series of orange lights were seen flashing in the sky before the unknown object crashed into the ocean. In 2016, a public opinion poll reported that four in five Canadians believe intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe, and nearly half of those polled believed aliens had already visited Earth. Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell with a black beauty box. 99.99% pure silver. 45 long x 33 wide. Joel Kimmel (reverse), Susanna Blunt (obverse). It is one of Canadas most famous UFO encounters! Our second UFO coin is a re-telling of a widely witnessed event that took place in 1967. The vertical design conveys a feeling of awe as you witness four mysterious lights crashing into the waters off Shag Harbour, N. Use the blacklight flashlight (included) to view the coin in the darkthe glowing features add a sci-fi worthy touch to this true story! This coin brings attention to a story that many people don’t know about. The Shag Harbour Incident is one of the best government-documented UFO crashes; even today, the case remains open and unsolved. Laurie Wickens, Eyewitness and President of the Shag Harbour UFO Incident Society. Don’t be disappointed, order yours. CANADA’S BEST-DOCUMENTED UFO CRASH! Now you’re a witness too! This coin is a re-telling of a UFO crash in Canada that prompted a government investigation in 1967the same year as the Falcon Lake Incident featured on a 2018 coin. SECOND COIN IN A PHENOMENAL SERIES! For our second Unexplained Phenomena coin, we’re telling the story on a 1 oz. Fine silver rectangular wafer that gives us more vertical space to depict a UFO crash off Canada’s East Coast. A BLACK LIGHT-ACTIVATED GLOW! Use the black light flashlight (included) to activate the coin’s glow-in-the-dark features. These add a sci-fi worthy element to our colourful depiction of the mysterious craft and the four mysterious lights that were spotted in the sky. Designed by Pandora Young, your coin is an artist’s rendering of the Shag Harbour Incident. The colourful vertical image shows the well-known UFO encounter from a witness’ perspective, with a view from a fishing vessel off the southern coast of Nova Scotia. Three fishermen look up at the night sky, where black light technology adds a glow to the mysterious craft and its flashing lights as the object crashes into the Gulf of Maine. At first, no one referred to it as a UFO. Laurie Wickens, then 18, noticed the lights while driving with friends and estimated the craft to measure some 60 feet in diameter. But when it came crashing down into the sea, a flash of light and a roar led some witnesses to believe a plane crash had just occurred. Three RCMP officers, including one who had also seen the lights, arrived at the impact site to find the strange object glowing in the water less than a kilometre from the shore. Officials contacted the Rescue Coordination Centre in Halifax to find out if an aircraft had gone missingall were accounted for. Coast Guard and military vessels also arrived on the scene but they were already too late: the lights had already vanished and only the sparkling yellow foam remained on the surface. The search for a downed craft continued into the early morning hours but there was never any evidence of debris. A diving detachment of the Royal Canadian Navy also combed the seabed until the investigation was called off on October 9. What crashed in the water? Was it top-secret aircraft? Government documents show authorities could not offer a conventional explanation. Even today, the Shag Harbour Incident remains a mystery and one of the best-documented encounters with an unidentified flying object. Commercial pilots were the first to spot mysterious lights in the evening sky on October 4, 1967, as they approached Yarmouth, N. Sightings were also reported in Halifax. Seven witnesses (including Laurie Wickens) notified the RCMP about strange flashing lights or a possible plane crash. In fact, it was the authorities not the witnesses who first referred to the case as a UFO incident. Established in 2006, the Shag Harbour Incident Society is dedicated to chronicling the 1967 encounter. Visitors to the interpretive centre in Shag Harbour, N. Can learn more about the unexplained sighting through the permanent display of articles, memorabilia and videos. Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded clamshell with a black beauty box. 49.8 x 28.6. Pandora Young (reverse), Susanna Blunt (obverse). The peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus), also known as the peregrine, and historically as the duck hawk in North America, is a widespread bird of prey (raptor) in the familyFalconidae. A large, crow-sized falcon, it has a blue-grey back, barred white underparts, and a black head. As is typical of bird-eating raptors, peregrine falcons are sexually dimorphic, with females being considerably larger than males. The peregrine is renowned for its speed, reaching over 320 km/h (200 mph) during its characteristic hunting stoop (high-speed dive), making it the fastest member of the animal kingdom. According to a National Geographic TV programme, the highest measured speed of a peregrine falcon is 389 km/h (242 mph). The peregrine’s breeding range includes land regions from the Arctic tundra to the tropics. It can be found nearly everywhere on Earth, except extreme polar regions, very high mountains, and most tropical rainforests; the only major ice-free landmass from which it is entirely absent is New Zealand. This makes it the world’s most widespread raptor, and one of the most widely found bird species. In fact, the only land-based bird species found over a larger geographic area is not always naturally occurring, but one widely introduced by humans, the rock pigeon, which in turn now supports many peregrine populations as a prey species. The peregrine is a highly successful example of urban wildlife in much of its range, taking advantage of tall buildings as nest sites and an abundance of prey such as pigeons and ducks. Both the English and scientific names of this species mean “wandering falcon, ” referring to the migratory habits of many northern populations. Experts recognize 17 to 19 subspecies, which vary in appearance and range; disagreement exists over whether the distinctive Barbary falcon is represented by two subspecies of Falco peregrinus, or is a separate species, F. The two species’ divergence is relatively recent, during the time of the last ice age, therefore the genetic differential between them (and also the difference in their appearance) is relatively tiny. They are only about 0.6-0.8% genetically differentiated. While its diet consists almost exclusively of medium-sized birds, the peregrine will occasionally hunt small mammals, small reptiles, or even insects. Reaching sexual maturity at one year, it mates for life and nests in a scrape, normally on cliff edges or, in recent times, on tall human-made structures. The peregrine falcon became an endangered species in many areas because of the widespread use of certain pesticides, especially DDT. Since the ban on DDT from the early 1970s, populations have recovered, supported by large-scale protection of nesting places and releases to the wild. The peregrine falcon is a well respected falconrybird due to its strong hunting ability, high trainability, versatility, and – in recent years – availability via captive breeding. It is effective on most game bird species, from small to large. 999 Diameter: 38.6 mm Weight: 1 oz – 31.1g Finish: COLOR AND SILVER Certificate COA: Yes Box: Yes.
