A TRIBUTE TO THE FIRST CANADIAN GOLD COIN. As Canadians reflect on our 150-year journey since Confederation, the Royal Canadian Mint looks back at a key milestone that is rooted in our historyours, and Canadas. This exclusive keepsake re-creates the first Canadian gold coin struck in 1912 in one kilogram of 99.99% pure silver, and features selective gold plating that adds an elegant touch of its original golden hue. The reverse features a near-faithful reproduction of W. Blackmores design for the first Canadian gold coin. The focal point is the Canadian coat of arms, as it appeared before 1921: a quartered shield composed of the provincial arms of the Dominion of Canada (Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick).
