Fourth coin in a groundbreaking series! Composition: 99.99% pure silver. Weight (g): 31.83 one troy oz. Face value: 25 dollars (a legal tender Canadian coin). Artists: Cyril Assiniboine (reverse), Susanna Blunt (obverse). That bear is killing all the animals and our people will starve. We must stop it, the elders said. Three great hunters set out in pursuit of the great bear. They tracked it for many moons, across the earth and up into the sky. The story above is the compelling First Nations legend that explains the origins of the Big Dipper, one of the most recognized formations in the night sky. The seven stars that make up the Big Dipper are arguably one of the most recognized formations in the night sky. They are visible year-round from northern latitudes, and have inspired countless legends around the globe. Many First Nations legends describe the Big Dipper as a great bear who is hunted ceaselessly by three hunters. The first issue in this four-coin series shows the hunters answering the elders’ call to stop the bear before it kills all the animals in the forest and brings starvation to the people. A wonderful keepsake for star gazers and history buffs; anyone with a passion for Canada’s rich ancestral past and its mystifying First Nations traditions and legends. The fourth coin in this four coin series is the Eternal Pursuit! All four boxes in the series when viewed in the dark make up the big dipper! A FIRST: Glow-in-the-dark technology on a silver coin! Glows in the darkjust like stars! Turn off the lights and 7 stars depicting three hunters in pursuit of the great bear magically appear. Will not wear out! Innovative glow-in-the-dark technology will not wear out – ever! For best effect, simply recharge the coin under a light. Mesmerizing color brings the richness of First Nations traditions to life. Not all the stars are colored. Four of them shine with the perfection of 99.99% pure silver to enhance the twinkling sky. For our Canadian customers, this coin is GST/HST exempt! Western Ojibwa artist Cyril Assiniboine has created a series of stunning images. This coin depicts a cold winter night with a ghostly figure of the great bear making its journey across a star-filled sky. Glow-in-the-dark starts reveal three hunters in pursuit of the great bear. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. Each coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clam-shell with a custom beauty box that glows in the dark! Be sure to add me to your favorites list. Photos: When a listing offers multiples of the same coin, one coin is picked at random and photographed. Since all coins offered in that listing are essentially identical, the coin photographed is representative of all coins offered. Surface areas that appear black on some proof coin photos are actually highly polished, mirror-bright metal reflecting the color of the camera. Whenever possible, we use actual photos of our coins, rather than just artists conception drawings from the Mint. We frequently update and upgrade the photos that appear with our listings, using improved cameras and lenses and better lighting. We will honor your requests for additional photos as quickly as our schedule permits. Only 4000 pieces ever minted! Its a phenomenon that seems mysterious, elusive and almost magical; the sight of a fireflys (Lampyridae) glow lighting up the darkness on a hot summer night is enchanting, and often evokes childhood memories of trying to catch one by a lake or while camping in a forest. In a unique celebration of a remarkable natural phenomenon in Canadas wilderness, this beautifully coloured coin recreates the magic of a fireflys glimmer on a moonlit night with the use of glow-in-the-dark technology. The entire reverse image by Canadian artist Ervin Molnar combines rich colours and detailed engraving to recreate the beauty of a moonlit night in the Canadian wilderness. Twilight brings tranquility to the forest, where a canoe has brought campers to rest along the shore for the night. There is an added element of magic in the warm night air as fireflies take flight and intermittently light up the darkness. In the foreground, two fireflies can be viewed up close and in great detail, with colour recreating their delicate wings and markings along their abdomen. But the full effect of the coin is best viewed in the dark after placing it in a light source for 30 to 60 seconds; photo-luminescent technology transports the viewer into the coins campsite by recreating the only sources of light: the enchanting spark of light emitted by the fireflies, along with the campfires amber flames and the bright full moon that are reflected on the still surface of the water. Photo-luminescent elements recreate the magic of seeing a firefly on a moonlit night in the Canadian wilderness. Detailed engraving and the use of colour on the entire reverse create a dazzling image, while Royal Canadian Mint-first, multi-coloured, glow-in-the-dark technology with variable intensity adds a beautiful glow to the moon, the fire and the fireflies. The effect occurs after placing the coin in a light source for 30 to 60 seconds, then bringing it into the dark to experience the sight of fireflies at a campsite even visible through the capsule! Crafted from 99.99% pure silver with a limited mintage of 4,000 worldwide. Makes the perfect gift for a nature lover, or for those who will revel in the innovative use of glow-in-the-dark technology. Composition 99.99% pure silver. Mintage 4,000. Weight (g) 62.7. Diameter (mm) 54. Artist Ervin Molnar. Packaging Maroon clamshell with custom beauty box. Finished size 88 mm x 88 mm.
