Dubbed the Montréal Incident, this famous UFO sighting has been re-created on our fourth. Its colourful, glow-in-the-dark design transports you to the rooftop pool at the Hôtel Bonaventure Montréal on the night of November 7, 1990, when a mysterious object suddenly appeared in the sky. On the coin, the UFOs light beams are enhanced with black light paint technology, which is activated by the flashlight that comes with your coin. Weve even engineered a Fresnel optical effect that alters that way light reflects on the coin, depending on your viewing angletilt the coin and youll see! A UFO in downtown Montréal? OUR FOURTH UFO SIGHTING! From unusual sightings to strange encounters, this series of colourful coins brings you some of Canadas most fascinating tales of unexplained phenomena. Coin #4 features a colourful re-telling of the Montréal Incident in November 1990, when a UFO was spotted from the rooftop pool at the Hôtel Bonaventure Montréal. A MINT FIRST: FRESNEL BEAMS! On your coins reverse, the UFOs light beams are enhanced by a Fresnel optical effecta first for us! An array of features has been engineered in a way that alters the way the light reflects off the coin, so that it appears to move in, out and across the beams depending on your viewing angle. The UFOs bright light beams colourfully lit up the night sky, and they certainly do on your coins reverse. Your coin comes with a black light flashlight that activates the embedded black light paint technology, which emphasizes the outline of the UFO and adds an intense, colourful glow to the light beams that are also reflected on the pool surface. Like the 2019 coin that depicted the Shag Harbour Incident, this 1 oz. 99.99% pure silver rectangular coin features a vertical orientation that emphasizes height. It shows the UFO hovering in place above the rooftop pool of the 17-storey building, high above Montréals busy downtown core. The obverses engraved field pattern is a nod to the reverse design, and to the mysterious light beams that were observed by. Witnesses on the night of November 7, 1990. ONE OF OUR MOST POPULAR THEMES! Collectors love a good UFO story. Whether youre fascinated by UFOs, or you just love a colourful coin that tells a great story, this coin is for you. Crafted from 1 oz. Of 99.99% pure silver, this rectangular coin is a fun addition to any collection and makes a great gift. The Royal Canadian Mint certifies all of its collector coins. Design: The reverse design by Canadian graphic design artist Patrick Belanger features the artists rendition of an aerial UFO phenomenon that occurred on November 7, 1990 in Montréal, Que. The colourful image shows the event from the perspective of those who spotted the object from the rooftop pool at the Hôtel Bonaventure Montréal. The objects bright light beams are amplified by black light paint technology and an engineered Fresnel effect, which varies the intensity of reflected light depending on the viewing angle. The obverse features a field pattern and the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. I clearly remember that night, when the whole family was watching a news story about an unidentified object in the Montréal sky, and it totally captured my attention. This coin design gave me an opportunity to marvel and recreate the energy I felt that evening, and it has rekindled my childhood fascination with UFOs. This is my second project within the. Series and I can truly say that these coins are among my favourites! The stories are mysterious and intriguing, and they will open your mind to the possibility that UFOs exist. Christa Bruce, Product Manager. The Place Bonaventure UFO was seen by dozens of witnesses as it seemed to hover over the hotels rooftop pool. Guests alerted hotel staff, including a security guard, who in turn called a newspaper reporter, all of whom said they watched the stationary object hanging in the sky, displaying an odd clocklike pattern of lights. Photos taken that night remain hotly disputed as to what they depict: A reflection of underwater pool lights? Spotlights on a nearby skyscraper? Even RCMP were mystified that night, and the incident is still regarded today as one of Canadas most curious UFO cases. Chris Rutkowski, Science Writer. This was a fun design to model since I stayed at this hotel a few years after the Montréal Incident. Given the three-quarter perspective, I thought it would be wise to create concentric ovals radiating from the UFO and a Fresnel lens effect for the six beams of lightthis helps reflect the light in a unique way. For the colour application, the challenge was to align the paint files with the many straight, hard lines in the designbuildings, windows, steps, pool deck and swimming pooland this made for an interesting effect as the light beams can also be seen on the pool surface. Stan Witten, Senior Engraver. The incident depicted on your coin isnt the only time a UFO was spotted in Montréalaccording to the annual Canadian UFO survey, its one of the Canadian cities with the most reported sightings each year. November 7, 1990, 7:20 p. A tourist was enjoying a relaxing swim in the rooftop pool of the Hôtel Bonaventure Montréal, when suddenly, green and yellow light beams emanating from a large, metallic object lit up the night sky. The woman alerted the lifeguard, who called the hotels security guard; soon, guests, hotel staff and management had gathered to view this anomalous aerial object, which continued to hover in place. When the light beams suddenly became brighter, police were called in. Baffled, the first officer on the scene contacted his superiors, and before long, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Canadian military and even NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) were reportedly looking into this strange object. Sometime after 10 p. Dense cloud cover obscured the view of the UFO, but photographs taken by a journalist provide compelling physical evidence of this unexplained phenomenon. Packaging: Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded clamshell with a black beauty box. 99.99% pure silver with selective colour, Fresnel engraving and black light paint technology. 49.8 x 28.6. Patrick Bélanger (reverse), Susanna Blunt (obverse). I do leave feedback for everyone. Store Category: Glow In The Dark. Shag Harbour Incident – coin #2 is here. What happens when a UFO witness is an on-duty police officer? Enhanced with black light-activated technology, our THIRD. Coin is a colourfulretelling of a famous Canadian UFO event. The 1978 Clarenville Incident is a compelling account that can’t be easily dismissed since it involved several witnesses, including an RCMP officer who described a strange sight that has never been satisfactorily explained. October 26, 1978, 1:45 a. Responding to a call, RCMP Constable James Blackwood arrived at the scene in Clarenville, N. Where witnesses directed his attention to a brightly lit object in the sky. Using binoculars and a high-powered scope, they observed the fin-tailed, oval-shaped craft as it hovered above the water near Random Island. It emitted no sound; and when the officer flashed the lightbar on his police cruiser, the mysterious craft instantly mimicked the lights. It remained in the area for nearly an hour before rising up suddenly and vanishing into the night, leaving no trace of its passage except a credible eyewitness account. BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND: This 1 oz. Fine silver rectangular coin gives you a front row seat to a famous Canadian UFO event: the 1978 incident at Clarenville, N. From unusual sightings to strange encounters, this series brings you some of Canada’s most fascinating tales of unexplained phenomena. FUN AND EXPRESSIVE: For our third UFO tale, the coin features a landscape orientation that allows for a sweeping waterfront view, and an expressive art style that gives it a distinct Newfoundland vibe. GREAT GLOW-IN-THE-DARK EFFECT: Use the black light flashlight (included) to activate the coin’s glow-in-the-dark features, and you’ll see the bright lights described by the witnesses. LOW MINTAGE, HIGH DEMAND: Mintage is limited to just 5,000 coins worldwide and it will likely be a sought-after piece. So hurry, order yours today! Design: The reverse design by Adam Young is an artistic representation of a 1978 UFO event that took place in Clarenville, N. Rendered in a colourful and expressive art style, the landscape-oriented image shows the event from the perspective of the witnesses, including the RCMP officer whose police cruiser appears in the bottom right corner. The oval-shaped craft is seen hovering over Random Sound on a clear night. Black light-activated technology adds a bright glow to the mysterious object and its illuminated reflection on the water. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. I wanted this piece to include all the elements of the 1978 experience while also incorporating the rugged yet whimsical coastline so often found in the Newfoundland landscape. Light and line direction were also important aspects of the design, creating a circular visual flow throughout the composition. This has been an exciting artistic endeavour, which, throughout my research for the design, has caused me to tumble down the rabbit hole of other Canadian UFO sightings. When I arrived at the wharf, people were milling about and looking up at the sky in disbelief. What struck me the most was the size and brightness of the object, and the lack of noise everything was so quiet. Expert: James Blackwood, Eyewitness: The Expert. A similar object was spotted in the area on October 12, two weeks prior to the UFO event depicted on this coin. Blackwood, an aircraft enthusiast, was sceptical when he first arrived at the scene. Using a telescope retrieved from the detachment office, Blackwood studied the Boeing 737-sized craft through the magnified view. It appeared to be made of a dull, coarse-looking metal and had no doors or windows. Its bottom half was bathed in white light, with flashing blue lights on both sides and a red one on top. The sighting was reported to the Department of National Defence. The National Research Council suggested it may have been the planet Jupiter casting its shadow on the water, but the witnesses disagreed with this explanation. Packaging: Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded clamshell with a black beauty box. 99.99% pure silver. 49.8 x 28.6. Adam Young (reverse), Susanna Blunt (obverse).
