2021 Lake Louise $50 EHR Extra High Relief Proof Pure Silver Coin Canada

Turquoise waters, snow-capped mountains and unparalleled alpine scenerythe beauty of Lake Louise is legendary, and this fine silver coin celebrates all the geographic elements that make it one of Canadas great treasures! Never before has the Canadian landscape been rendered so realistically as on this coins reverse. Its design features an overhead view of the Lake Louise area, and while Extraordinarily High Relief (EHR) technology sends the Canadian Rockies soaring to new heights, beautiful Lake Louise is unmissable thanks to coloured enamel that highlights the crown jewel of Banff National Park. A new RCM benchmark: This is the highest relief weve ever achieved on a 50 mm coin. This marks the first time Extraordinarily High Relief (EHR) has been applied to a 50 mm coin. INNOVATIVE USE OF EHR TECHNOLOGY! For a more realistic rendering of the terrain, your coins reverse mixes sunken relief (Lake Louise) and EHR technology (Canadian Rockies) that adds extra height. One of Canadas most photogenic locations, Lake Louise is famous for its turquoise waters that are re-created here using translucent coloured enamel over engraved relief. ANOTHER RCM FIRST: In addition to the EHR technology, the RCM was able to frost the top of the mountain peaks and glaciers to give them a silvery, snow-capped appearance. GEOGRAPHY ON BOTH SIDES! The geography theme extends to your coins obverse, which shares the same field pattern as the reverses outer rim. This pattern consists of contour lines that typically illustrate relief on a topographic map. This mesmerizing combination of topographic mapping, EHR and selective enamelling is the product of close collaboration between our engineering and engraving teams, who spared no effort in their attempt to create the most realistic rendering possible. Only 3,000 are available to collectors and geography enthusiasts worldwide. Dont miss outorder your coin today! The Royal Canadian Mint certifies all of its collector coins. Design: Based on elevation modelling, your coins reverse features Extraordinary High Relief (EHR) technology that adds height to this realistic rendering of the terrain surrounding Lake Louise in Banff National Park (Alberta), in the Canadian Rockies. Glaciers and mountain peaks are frosted to create a silvery snow-capped effect. Lake Louise is struck incuse and filled in with translucent colour enamel that mimics its famous turquoise waters. Inspired by topographic maps, contour lines form a field pattern that frames the reverse and continues on the obverse, which features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. It was a thrilling experience to see Lake Louise and the surrounding terrain come to life on a coin. Working alongside our R&D staff continues to be a privilege, and with new avenues to explore, there is never a dull moment! Matt Eggink, Product Manager, RCM. Lake Louise, with its iconic turquoise waters, has captivated travellers in the Rocky Mountains since time immemorial. Today, Parks Canada welcomes visitors from around the world to take in the breathtaking glaciers and mountain landscapes, hike to incredible viewpoints, and share in the history of this unforgettable place. Rick Kubian, Field Unit Superintendent, Lake Louise, Yoho and Kootenay, Parks Canada. Using satellite mapping data, we were able to translate the geography of the Lake Louise area into a 3D modela first for us! Despite the technical challenges of creating height and rendering the mountain range in fine detail, the final product is truly a stunning and unique representation of Canadian geography. Ryan Poser, Engraver. The Lake Louise coin is another great innovation from the Royal Canadian Mint. We can appreciate the reliefs details of the mountains around Lake Louise area, which are located on multiple areas and non-centered on the coin, whereas for typical coins, the high relief area is centered. The maximum relief height for a typical 50mm diameter is 0.25mm while for this coin the maximum relief is more than 15 times higher! Another novelty is we were able to introduce real-life topographic satellite data in our design software in order to be able to manufacture the die as close as we can to replicate the real topography of the area on the coin. Yannick Cormier, Senior Research Engineer, R&D. Beginning in late spring, Victoria Glaciers meltwater carries silt or rock flour (fine-grained particles of rock) into Lake Louise, where these particles stay suspended in the waterin fact, the lakes vivid colour is caused by sunlight reflecting off these particles. If youre hoping to see those turquoise waters in person, youll want to time your visit carefully. A sunny day is best but the waters also need to have a high concentration of suspended rock flour particles. Peak time is July and August, when glacial run-off is at its highest; September and early October are also good times to visit, but the colour fades as the silt settles and meltwater tapers off. Packaging: Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded clamshell with a black beauty box. 99.99% pure silver. I do leave feedback for everyone. Designed by artist Joel Kimmel, your coin is based on Stefan Michalaks account of what transpired on May 20, 1967, near Falcon Lake, Manitoba. A full application of colour re-creates the springtime colours of the place where Michalak saw two objects appear in the midday sky. Based on the witnesss descriptions and sketches, the oval-shaped UFO on the reverse has a steel-like appearance as it hovers above him. Black light-activated features complete the story by mimicking the distinctive red glow described by Michalak, while adding a yellow hue to the blast of hot air or gas that knocked the amateur prospector on his back and left him with mysterious burn marks. The reverse includes the engraved word CANADA, the face value 20 DOLLARS and the year 2018. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. Around midday on May 20, 1967, amateur prospector Stefan (Stephen) Michalak was on the hunt for precious metals in Whiteshell Provincial Park when he suddenly noticed two strange objects in the sky. Both glowed with an intense red and glare as they descended from the sky; one abruptly left the scene, but the other landed roughly 50 metres away from Michalak, who moved in to get a closer look. The humming object was described as having a sulphurous smell, and it appeared to be made from a stainless steel-like material. Peering into a brightly lit opening, Michalak heard muffled sounds and tried calling out to them, only to be met with silence. He touched the seamless sides of the craft, which melted the tips of his glove; and when the UFO suddenly lifted off the ground, it emitted a blast of hot air or gas that knocked Michalak on his back, igniting his shirt and causing a grid-like pattern of third-degree burns to his chest. What was the strange craft? Where did it come from? Its a story that has more questions than answers. Michalak never claimed the craft was an alien one; neither did he waver in his account of what he had seen and experienced that day, even under the scrutiny of doctors, scientists, law enforcement officials and other authorities, who could neither corroborate nor disprove the close encounter. Canada is a hotbed of UFO activity! According to a survey, 1,131 UFO sightings were reported in Canada in 2016 but only 4% of these could not be explained. Quebec also leads all other provinces in reported UFO sightings. In 1967 (the same year as the Falcon Lake Incident), the worlds first UFO landing pad was built in St. Another famous Canadian UFO sighting took place in 1967 this time, in Shag Harbour, N. Where a series of orange lights were seen flashing in the sky before the unknown object crashed into the ocean. In 2016, a public opinion poll reported that four in five Canadians believe intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe, and nearly half of those polled believed aliens had already visited Earth. Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell with a black beauty box. 99.99% pure silver. 45 long x 33 wide. Joel Kimmel (reverse), Susanna Blunt (obverse). It is one of Canadas most famous UFO encounters! Our second UFO coin is a re-telling of a widely witnessed event that took place in 1967. The vertical design conveys a feeling of awe as you witness four mysterious lights crashing into the waters off Shag Harbour, N. Use the blacklight flashlight (included) to view the coin in the darkthe glowing features add a sci-fi worthy touch to this true story! This coin brings attention to a story that many people don’t know about. The Shag Harbour Incident is one of the best government-documented UFO crashes; even today, the case remains open and unsolved. Laurie Wickens, Eyewitness and President of the Shag Harbour UFO Incident Society. Don’t be disappointed, order yours. CANADA’S BEST-DOCUMENTED UFO CRASH! Now you’re a witness too! This coin is a re-telling of a UFO crash in Canada that prompted a government investigation in 1967the same year as the Falcon Lake Incident featured on a 2018 coin. SECOND COIN IN A PHENOMENAL SERIES! For our second Unexplained Phenomena coin, we’re telling the story on a 1 oz. Fine silver rectangular wafer that gives us more vertical space to depict a UFO crash off Canada’s East Coast. A BLACK LIGHT-ACTIVATED GLOW! Use the black light flashlight (included) to activate the coin’s glow-in-the-dark features. These add a sci-fi worthy element to our colourful depiction of the mysterious craft and the four mysterious lights that were spotted in the sky. Designed by Pandora Young, your coin is an artist’s rendering of the Shag Harbour Incident. The colourful vertical image shows the well-known UFO encounter from a witness’ perspective, with a view from a fishing vessel off the southern coast of Nova Scotia. Three fishermen look up at the night sky, where black light technology adds a glow to the mysterious craft and its flashing lights as the object crashes into the Gulf of Maine. At first, no one referred to it as a UFO. Laurie Wickens, then 18, noticed the lights while driving with friends and estimated the craft to measure some 60 feet in diameter. But when it came crashing down into the sea, a flash of light and a roar led some witnesses to believe a plane crash had just occurred. Three RCMP officers, including one who had also seen the lights, arrived at the impact site to find the strange object glowing in the water less than a kilometre from the shore. Officials contacted the Rescue Coordination Centre in Halifax to find out if an aircraft had gone missingall were accounted for. Coast Guard and military vessels also arrived on the scene but they were already too late: the lights had already vanished and only the sparkling yellow foam remained on the surface. The search for a downed craft continued into the early morning hours but there was never any evidence of debris. A diving detachment of the Royal Canadian Navy also combed the seabed until the investigation was called off on October 9. What crashed in the water? Was it top-secret aircraft? Government documents show authorities could not offer a conventional explanation. Even today, the Shag Harbour Incident remains a mystery and one of the best-documented encounters with an unidentified flying object. Commercial pilots were the first to spot mysterious lights in the evening sky on October 4, 1967, as they approached Yarmouth, N. Sightings were also reported in Halifax. Seven witnesses (including Laurie Wickens) notified the RCMP about strange flashing lights or a possible plane crash. In fact, it was the authorities not the witnesses who first referred to the case as a UFO incident. Established in 2006, the Shag Harbour Incident Society is dedicated to chronicling the 1967 encounter. Visitors to the interpretive centre in Shag Harbour, N. Can learn more about the unexplained sighting through the permanent display of articles, memorabilia and videos. Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded clamshell with a black beauty box. 49.8 x 28.6. Pandora Young (reverse), Susanna Blunt (obverse).
