If you look up at the full moon, some of the shadows on the surface seem to form the outline of a rabbit with a mortar and pestle. There are a few different versions of the legend of the Jade or Moon Rabbit (also known as the Gold Rabbit), but according to one story, the rabbit was rewarded with immortality after it selflessly offered itself as food. The Jade Rabbit is said to live in Moon Palace with Chang’e, the goddess of the moon, whose origin story is associated with the annual Mid-Autumn Festival. The Jade Rabbit is often portrayed pounding the elixir of life while standing under a cinnamon (cassia) tree, which is thought to symbolize abundance and perpetual growth. Inspired by the legend of the Jade (Moon) Rabbit, the reverse design by Canadian artist Lily Kao celebrates the Year of the Rabbit with a folk art-styled depiction of the Goddess of the Moon’s furry companion. The gentle and good-natured Rabbit is seen leaping over a new crescent moon that symbolizes new beginnings. The reverse also includes the word “CANADA”, the year “2023″ and a face value of “15 DOLLARS”. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt with a repeating scallop pattern. The enchanting legend of the Jade Rabbit inspired this design. Here, the Rabbit is portrayed in a dynamic position, leaping over a moon crescent that symbolizes new beginnings and a new cycle. More than just cute and fluffy, the Jade Rabbit is a symbol of selflessness and devotion. Items shown in picture is similar to the actual items for sale. Collector, Grandparent, Parent of Two or More Children, Working Parent. This coin is beautifully made and very eye-catching. I hope I can get the series, but “awaiting stock” is rarely a good sign for desirable coins. The colorful design attracts my attention. A pretty colored silver coin to start with. Looking forward for the other 2 coins to be issued. Should sell all 3 coins together now in a high quality display box (see through from top). GREAT FOR THE NATURE LOVER AND THE COLLECTOR. A must have for the avid collector. Fine Silver Coin – Ducks of Canada: Wood Duck – Mintage: 10000 (2013). Reviewed by 7 customers. Education Oriented, Grandparent, Parent of Two or More Children, Working Parent. Will maintain its value and beauty. Lee the coin guy. The coloring and detail on the coin is really nice. Mint did an exceptional job on this coin! This coin has definitely met my expectations, it exhibits beautiful and accurate coloring on the pair of Wood Ducks with nice detail. With the recent drop in silver prices, I wish the RCM would have issued these “Duck” coins in a larger diameter coin, possibly even a 1 1/2 oz version that would really hit the mark. Other than that, it’s a nice example and overall well done by the mint. Really a beautiful coin. I can’t wait for the pintail. Wow wildlife in your hand!! Details and colors are great, good job rcm. Unfortunately, i’ll have to admire this coin in the picture. After being shut out of the original subscription, i was lucky enough to get the Mallard. Checked website everday for months awaiting this coin. Went to site immediately to order only to find they are “awaiting stock”. I’m not so naive enough to know this is the mints way of saying your out of luck. Reviewed this the day of issue but Mint neglected to post – i guess they’re only interested in positive reaction. Second coin of the popular duck series at a little premium price. Both this and the 25-cent partner new coins are more attractive than the first one. The mint has listened to the public and beautful coins keep coming out. Just hope the mint did not forget their commitment to issue all other pretty series, not just the popular one. This is from my personal collection which I ordered directly from Royal Canadian Mint in 2014. Please feel free to make an offer and we might strike a deal!
