Wood shavings cover the ground beneath the beaver’s feet and around the base of the tree. Its small ears, eyes, and nose-which can seal themselves under water-are rendered in fine detail. On the right side of the image, behind and to the side of the upright beaver, another adult beaver and small kit work on either side of a felled log, trimming away bark and preparing the log for use. On the extreme left of the image, the base of this felled tree is visible. The background of the image reveals a large pond backed by mountainous forest. The beavers’ food cache emerges from the centre of the pond. The image occupies the entire reverse field and is engraved with the word “CANADA, ” the date “2013, ” and the face value of 50 DOLLARS. Pure Silver Coin Canada, 2018 $50 Murano Holiday Splendour, Royal Canada Mint
J & M Coin and Jewellery. This flower will bloom forever with this coin’s stunning show of crimson glass. Murano glass dates back to 8th century Rome. At the time, glass was a luxury reserved strictly for the rich, and glassmakers enjoyed the same status as the aristocracy. This glass poinsettia has all the prestige that makes Murano one of the greatest glass producers of the world. Its delicate and airy form was individually blown with a sprinkling of gold foil for an added touch of Holiday sparkle. Shimmering from the surface of this extra-large coin, this breathtaking flower will captivate long after the potted poinsettia has faded away. Canadian artist Marie-Élaine Cusson has created a beautiful and finely detailed backdrop to showcase this coin’s beautiful Murano glass to full effect. Six deeply veined leaves frame the red glass poinsettia with sprigs of pine needles, ferns and holly berries filling the gaps to create a vibrant, festive feel-all punctuated by the shimmering gold foil embedded in the glass. J & M Coin and Jewellery. They were specially chosen for Canada’s circulation coins in 1927, to commemorate Confederation’s Diamond Jubilee; alas, the stunning designs never made it onto a. Instead, “the coins that never were” quietly faded into the background, becoming part of coin lore and a footnote in history… That is, until now. Nearly a century later, we’ve dug deep into our vault to retrieve these long forgotten coin designs and bring them to life! This three-coin set is more than a link to Canada’s past, or a powerful tribute to the illustrious artists -it’s our way of taking up their mantle and seeing their vision through. Working with the original sketches and little else, weset out to interpret the 90-year-old designs. And by treating them as though they were entrusted to ustoday, we’ve transformed these designs into apowerful bridge between past and present. All three coins feature the unused circulation coin designs intended to commemorate Canada’s Diamond Jubilee in 1927. Working with the original sketches (and little else), the Royal Canadian Mint’s engravers set out to interpret each artist’s vision as though the art had been entrusted to them today, to mark Confederation’s 150th anniversary. The 90-year-old concepts have been painstakingly adapted for modern engraving techniques-including a reverse proof finish that allows the more brilliant engraved elements to shine bright againstthe matte backdrop. The five-cent coin by Canadian artist J. A second design by MacDonald graces the reverse of the25-cent coin, and centres on a soaring view of theiconic Peace Tower on Parliament Hill. The clock tower soars high above the clouds and is surrounded by a ribbon-wrapped laurel of leaves, from which hangs four bells-an ode to the Dominion Carillon, which was inaugurated on July 1, 1927, during the Diamond Jubilee festivities. Each bell bears engraved numbers that combine to form the commemorative dates “2017″ and “1867″. 99.99% pure silver. Emanuel Otto Hahn (reverse), Sir E.
