2022 Canada 1c Pure 5 oz. Silver Coin Farewell to the Penny 10th Anniversary

2022 Canada 1c Pure 5 oz. Silver Coin – Farewell to the Penny 10th Anniversary. A nostalgic look back! It was 10 years ago, in 2012, that the last Canadian penny was struck at our Winnipeg facility. Until that moment, the copper-plated cent was everywhere: it jingled in the pockets and purses of Canadians for generations filled countless coin jars and its maple leaf twig design was a part of our everyday lives. Now, a decade later, its iconic design has been given a new life and a modern twist on this 5 oz. Fine silver tribute, which has been enhanced with reverse gold plating to add a precious gleam. Gold plating fills the field, while the engraved relief consists of a multifaceted, geometric rendering of the iconic maple leaves and twig. The reverse also includes the face value “1 CENT”, the year “2022″ and the word “CANADA”. The obverse features a “P” composition mark indicating the gold plating, and the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. The last penny was struck in Winnipeg, Manitoba on May 4, 2012. Since the Mint opened its doors in 1908, we’ve minted around 35 billion of one-cent circulation coins, but we’ve also recycled over six billion of them since 2013. Unlike the other denominations of Canadian circulation coinage, the one-cent coin’s design remained largely unchanged after the maple leaf twig made its debut in 1937. The only exception was in 1967, when a rock dove design by Alex Colville appeared on the penny to mark the 100th anniversary of Confederation. Specifications: Composition: 99.99% pure silver with reverse gold plating Mintage: 1,500 Weight: 157.6 g Diameter: 65.25 mm Face Value: 1 cent Finish: Proof Edge: Serrated Artist: Matt Conacher (reverse), Susanna Blunt (obverse) Special Features. Remembering the penny, 10 years later! Enjoy this nostalgic look back at Canada’s one-cent circulation coin, as we mark the 10th anniversary of the last penny struck at our Winnipeg facility. A modern interpretation! The penny’s iconic maple leaf twig design is back, but there’s a twist! The twig and twin maple leaves have been given a more contemporary appearance, with geometric angles that add more depth than ever, and engraved facets that catch and reflect the light. Reverse gold plating! This coin is crafted from 5 oz. Of 99.99% pure silver, which is only visible on the effigy and select design elements on the reverse. The rest of the coin is plated with beautiful yellow gold that outshines even the brightest copper penny. With its 65.25 mm diameter, this spectacular showpiece is more than three times the size of the original penny (19.05 mm). It weighs considerably more, too: 157.6 grams compared to the penny’s 2.35 grams. Only 1,500 are available to collectors worldwide. Packaging: Coin comes encapsulated and presented in a black Royal Canadian Mint-branded clamshell with a black beauty box. Wyon’s design of crossed maple boughs surmounted by St. Edward’s Crown, as seen on the four denominations (5, 10, 25 and 50 cents) issued by theDominion of Canada in 1870. The obverse of both the5- and 10-cent coins features the “laureate” effigy of Queen Victoria by Leonard C. Theobverse of the 25- and 50-cent coins features the “diadem” effigy of Queen Victoria by Leonard C. With Confederation, the newly formed Dominionof Canada had inherited a currency system that was a wild mix of private tokens, banknotes, regional denominations and even foreign currency. And the influx of depreciated U. Silver coins (dubbed the “silver nuisance”) made it clear that the Canadian government’s first priority was to introduce a unified system of silver coinage to circulate inall provinces. The master tooling for the 1858 Province of Canada coins were re-purposed for the Dominion’s new 5- and 10-centcoins. But the 25- and 50-cent coins were new denominations for Canada and they required new tooling. Both coins featured a similar reverse design as the 5- and 10-cent coins, but the obverse introduced a new effigy: the “diademed” portrait of a young Queen Victoria by Leonard C. Today, our five-cent coin is bigger and weighs more than the 10-cent coin! The 10-cent coin isn’t the one that changed – its diameter (18.03 mm) hasn’t changed in 150 years. The 50-cent coins issued in 1870 had one of two obverse varieties. This set features the first obverse design (“no LCW”), which doesn’t includedesigner Leonard C. Wyon’s initials L. On the bust truncation. The maple bough arrangement on the 5- and 10- cent coins looks symmetrical, but it actually has 21 leaves: 11 on the left and 10 on the right. A 22-leafwreath was introduced in 1882. Your coins are individually encapsulated and presented in a single Royal Canadian Mint-branded clamshell with a black beauty box.

From the edge of the Arctic tundra to the Great Lakes, the little brown bat (Myotis lucifugus) owns the night by using echolocation to locate its insect prey. Our Nocturnal by Nature series continues its exploration of a nocturnal Canada, using selective black rhodium plating to set the tone for a night-time encounter with the diminutive flying mammal. Designed by Canadian artist Calder Moore, your coin brings the viewer face-to-face with the little brown bat. Rhodium plating represents the dark night sky that fills most of the field-save for the full moon that is faithfully engraved at the centre. The enhanced shine of the coin’s silver surface mimics the effect of lunar luminosity in this nocturnal setting, where a little brown bat suddenly makes its presence known overhead. The rhodium-plated hunter appears like a shadowy figure in the night thanks to a matte finish. And with moonlight spilling down across its back and outstretched wings, the bat’s engraved features are faintly visible. Royal Canadian Mint (RCM). 999 with Rhodium Plating. 31.39 g (1 troy oz). Maroon Clamshell Case, Black Outer Sleeve, Mint Capsule, COA. # Nocturnal, Nature, Little, Brown, Bat, Moon, Silver, Proof, Rhodium, Coin, Canada, RCM. Original box and COA from RCM. The coin has beautifully and evenly golden toning on the rhodium area. This makes it uniquely different than the other instances.
