2017 LEGACY of the PENNY, FIVE-COIN SILVER/GOLD SET LOW MINTAGE of 3,000. COMES WITH A WOODEN DISPLAY CASE! JUST AS IT CAME FROM THE ROYAL CANADIAN MINT! Own all of the designs of the penny in one set! Using multiple sized and shaped blanks, the Mint has carefully replicated the designs of Canada’s 1 cent from its first domestic striking in 1908. The set includes two 2-ounce coins and three 1-ounce coins, one of which has 12 sides to mimic the penny’s shape from 1982 to 1997all beautifully enhanced with selective pink gold plating to mimic the penny’s copper colour. A stunning coin set you will admire for years! UNIQUE SET INCLUDES TWO COIN SIZES: TWO 2-OUNCE COINS AND THREE 1-OUNCE COINS! The two coin sizes in this set reflect a historical change in the dimension of the penny. From the penny’s first issue in 1908 to the year 1920, the diameter of the Canadian 1-cent piece was 25.4 millimeters. Beginning later in 1920, the penny’s diameter was reduced to 19.05 millimetres. Though both sizes in this set are significantly larger than the originals, the diameter of the set’s two 2-ounce coins has been enlarged to reflect the pre-1920 large penny, while the three 1-ounce coins reflect the smaller penny that was produced after 1920. FEATURES ALL DESIGNS SINCE 1908! Celebrate the penny’s history with a commemorative set that features all of its major reverse designs since 1908. SELECTIVE ROSE GOLD PLATING! Recalls the penny’s warm copper patina. INCLUDES A RARELY USED COIN BLANK! Your coin set includes a 12-sided 1-ounce coin, a rarely used shape on this blank, to replicate the design of the 1982 penny. BEAUTIFUL WOOD DISPLAY CASE! Your coin set comes packaged in beautiful wood collector’s case with black beauty box. The obverse of each coin will have their original effigies. INCREDIBLY LOW MINTAGE: Only 3,000 coins will be made available worldwide. 99.99% PURE SILVER COINS! Your coin set is GST/HST exempt! This set of 99.99% pure silver coins selectively plated in pink gold features two 2-ounce coins and three 1-ounce coins. The two 2-ounce coins have a diameter of 54 millimetres. The three 1-ounce coins have a diameter of 38 millimetres. The face value for all five coins is 1 cent. The 2-ounce coins feature the original reverse design from Canada’s 1908 1-cent piece: a vine-like wreath of 16 maple leaves framing a centre field engraved with the face value. The wreath is framed on both sides with raised dots. The 1-ounce coins feature the original reverse designs from 1920 and 1967, and the 12-sided design from 1982. The 1920 replica features two maple leaves on either side of the reverse field, flanking the face value. The 1967 coin features Alex Colville’s iconic rock dove. The 1982 replica features G. Kruger-Gray’s maple leaf twig, originally introduced in 1937. Its 12-sided design recalls the shape of the penny from 1982 to 1997. On January 2, 1908, Canada’s first domestically produced coin was struck: a beautifully designed 1-cent piece featuring a polished centre wreathed by a vine of 16 maple leaves. This motif was bordered on each side by a frame of raised dots. The penny’s design remained this way until 1920, when the Mint updated the denomination’s reverse and reduced its diameter. The new design, created by Fred Lewis, is composed of two maple leaves flanking the denomination. The obverse featured the effigy of King George V. The 1930s were a time of growing nationalism in Canada. In the decade leading up to the Second World War, many of Canada’s major federal and cultural institutions were founded, including the Bank of Canada and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation/Radio-Canada. In 1937, the Royal Canadian Mint took on the task of modernizing Canadian coinage. That year marked the introduction of artist G. Kruger-Gray’s iconic maple leaf twig design, which remained the penny’s reverse image every year except Canada’s centennial year, 1967, until the denomination’s cancellation in 2012. Though the penny is no longer in production, and appears less frequently in our pocket change, it continues to hold a special place in the story of Canadian coinage. To celebrate Canada’s centennial in 1967, famed Canadian artist Alex Colville created a special commemorative set of designs for each circulation coin denomination. His design for the 1-cent piecean image of a rock dove in flightis still found in circulation today. In 1982, the penny’s shape was amended from perfectly round to 12-sided to make it easier for the visually impaired to distinguish between denominations. The shape remained 12-sided until 1997. In 5-coin custom presentation case box. This listing is for the Geometry in Art Beaver Silver Proof. 5-Coin Custom Presentation Case. Geometry in Art Beaver. Silver Proof may also be available in the single coin box! Welcome to the innovative Geometry in Art Program. The popular new series of spectacular, one troy ounce pure silver proof-finish coins from the Royal Canadian Mint. The goal of the Geometry in Art Program. Is to put a new take on the familiar designs of Canada’s circulating coinage. As digital artists seek to recreate the physical world through dimensional images, modeling techniques based on geometric shapes have given way to a new visual style, called low poly art. This eye-catching series utilizes this art style to present a contemporary spin on and highly artistic interpretation of five of Canadas most famous icons, taken from its legal tender denominations: #1 Loon. #5 Maple Leaf + #4 Beaver in Custom 5-Coin Presentation Case. The Geometry In Art Beaver Pure Silver Proof in 5-Coin Custom Presentation Case. This ingenious coin design brings together a mass of polygons to create a captivating image of a mother beaver. And her baby kit building their dam. Known as low poly art, this geometric technique has been merged with outstanding sculpting, cutting-edge technology and advanced finishing techniques. A stunning design with exceptional relief that defines every polygon, and rich, bold colors that bring depth, dimension and a powerful sense of shadow and light to the scene. Breathtaking use of color furthers the design. In keeping with the low poly art style, lustrous colors contribute to the perception of depth and shadows. An Original Work of Art! The design by Canadian artist Calder Moore features a stylized portrait oft a mother beaver. And her baby kit presented in an eye-catching low poly art style. Extraordinary sculpting, cutting-edge technology and advanced finishing techniques allow each polygon to appear distinct from the other throughout the design. The geometric lines and sharp corners recreate the branches used by the beavers as building material for their dam, yet these same lines are somewhat softened by the color variations between each polygon, playfully altering our perception of shadow, light and dimension and conveying the rounded shape of each beaver. The half-submerged perspective allows an underwater glimpse of the dam rising up from the mud at the bottom of the pond, while the deep blue sky above adds vibrancy to the green conifers along the rocky cliffs in the background. Technology Note – Color. The Royal Canadian Mint leads the world with its proprietary colorization technology, in which the color is actually sealed on the coin. The intricate detail, smooth gradients, and extreme precision of the technology create a stunning look on each coin. The Royal Canadian Mint refines the purest silver in the world. We’ve assembled this unique five-coin set to showcase some of the wonderful silver coinage of Canada and have placed it in a solid wood display frame that you can either hang on the wall or display on counter or desk. First minted in 1935 to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of King George V. Canadian silver dollars were minted almost continually until 1967 excluding the years surrounding WWII. These are the last five silver dollars minted for use as currency by the Canadian government. In 1968 the composition of the dollar was changed from silver to nickel, signaling an end to the silver currency era for Canada. Standards, mintages for these Canadian silver dollars were very low and used as currency and melting. Therefore, only a fraction of these coins survive today in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Because Canada is an independent commonwealth of Great Britain, the obverse of all five coins features the portrait of the ruler, Queen Elizabeth II. The reverse of the 1963, 1965 and 1966 coin is the classic voyager reverse, featuring a fur trader and a native Indian paddling in a birch bark canoe. Voyeurs were the first Europeans to venture into the dangerous Canadian wilderness in the 1600s and 1700s, usually by canoe, trading European items for furs, and learning the trades and practices of the native people in the process. The reverse of the 1964 issue celebrates 100. Anniversary of the Charlottetown Conference in Quebec, which led to the formation of the Dominion of Canada. The reverse of the 1967 issue celebrates the 100. Anniversary of the Canadian Confederation and features a magnificent rendition of a classic Canadian goose in flight. Black bears are the smallest and most common bear species found in North America. They can be found across the United States and in all provinces and territories in Canada, except Prince Edward Island. Although they live mainly in forested areas, these impressive animals have been known to venture into communities in search of food. Since they can be dangerous to humans, signs reading Please Dont Feed The bears! Are a common sight in campsites and rural areas near black bear habitats. Despite their name, black bears. Can range in color from cinnamon, to chocolate, to jet black, and in some rare cases, even white (albino). They may look slow, but they are capable of great bursts of speed when needed – some have been clocked at more than 35 miles per hour (50 km per hour) for short distances! Canadian folklore is rich with stories about these magnificent creatures. The popular childrens book character Winnie-the-Pooh was named after a Canadian black bear named “Winnipeg” that the author A. Milne often saw at the London Zoo. Black bears also feature prominently in the stories and traditions of Native Americans. In autumn, black bears retreat into their dens to hibernate for several months. The mother bear (called a sow) gives birth to her cubs during her winter hibernation, usually in the late January or early February. A typical litter consists of two black bear cubs. They are born blind and helpless, with fine, gray, down-like hair, and are nursed by their mother, in the den, until the spring. When spring arrives the family leaves the den together in search of food. Although the cubs are independent at about six months of age, they stay with their mother for the first two years of their life. Highly Detailed, Original Work of Art. The intricate design by Canadian wildlife artist Pierre Leduc captures the majestic qualities of the black bear. In remarkable detail, against the engraved forest in the background. Standing on its four legs, the bears bulky body size is evident when seen in three-quarter profile, as its front paws rest upon a rock in the foreground. Its head is turned to present the viewer with its carefully engraved facial features and its bold, inquisitive expression. Enhances the engraved textural details and brings to life the bears dark fur and lighter-colored muzzle. In this hillside clearing near the edge of a forest, the black bear inspires awe as it stands out among the bright colors of the vegetation, logs and rocks that surround it. Technology Note – Color. The Royal Canadian Mint leads the world with its proprietary colorization technology, in which the color is actually sealed on the coin.
