The reverse design features an outdoorsman and his husky portaging along the Yukon River. On the left side of the image, the smiling man carries a canoe on his shoulders, facing the viewer. Standing just in front of him is his dog, whose back is turned to the viewer. The dog gazes across the river toward the right side of the image where, on the opposite bank, a large elk stands on a towering outcrop of rocks. Behind the elk, a coniferous forest rises toward distant mountains. Coin #2: Splendid Surroundings. The reverse design features an outdoorsman and his dog navigating the rapids in British Columbias Fraser River. The image centers on the man and his husky, who are viewed from the front. The man paddles on the right side of the canoe while the dog leans toward the right. In the foreground, a rainbow trout has leapt out of the water just in front of the canoe. The churning river is flanked on both sides by a rocky shoreline giving way to rising mountain sides of coniferous forest. Coin #3: Magnificent Mountains. The reverse design features an outdoorsman and his dog paddling the Bow River in Alberta, while Canadian Pacifics famed 2816 Empress steam locomotive rides the tracks alongside the river. Rendered in exquisite detail, the image centers around the canoe carrying the outdoorsman and his husky upstream the sparkling Bow River so the canoeist could see the beautiful scenery one last time. The two face away from the viewer, heading toward a right-turn bend in the distance. The man paddles as his dog, standing at the bow, howls toward the train on the right side of the image. The train’s steam rises from its engine, drawing the eye up toward the vast snowcapped mountains that dominate the background. Stylized conifers line the train track and river. The reverse design features an outdoorsman and his dog camping on a rocky island in Ontarios Georgian Bay Islands National Park. The image centers on the camper and his simple campfire, dome tent, and canoe. As the smoke rises from the fire toward the left side of the image, the eye is drawn toward the unique landscape of this beautiful region of Ontario. The rocky, glacier-smoothed islands are dotted with grasses, lichens, mosses and the occasional wind-swept white pine tree. Each small island is reflected in the waters of the Georgian Bay which opens onto Lake Huron. Coin #5: Mirror, Mirror. The reverse design features an outdoorsman and his dog floating in their canoe on a still, reflective lake in Quebecs Laurentian Mountains. The canoe crosses the image near the top, pointing toward the left side of the coin. The outdoorsmans head is turned toward a nearby rocky shore in the background, while the huskys attention is fixed on the reflection, in the still lake, of a bald eagle soaring in the sky above. The images reflected in the lake reveal more about the scene. The design also showcases a mixed evergreen and deciduous forest, characteristic of this part of Canada, rising above the water. On the shore, a three-gabled habitant-style house overlooks the water. Coin #6: Exquisite Ending. The reverse design features an outdoorsman, accompanied by his dog, paddling the tumultuous waters of Quebecs Saint-Jean River toward the mouth of the Saint Lawrence. The image is dominated by the rugged splendor of the untamed Saint-Jean. Dwarfed by tall stone cliffs and a powerful, fast-flowing river that snakes its way across the scene, the outdoorsman paddles his canoe while his dog stands alert at the bow. In the background, fast flowing rapids and dense forest are captured in beautiful detail by Royal Canadian Mint engravers.
