CANADA 2014 $50 FINE SILVER COIN 5 oz. ABORIGINAL-THE LEGEND OF THE SPIRIT BEAR

Recounts the fascinating narrative of the white Spirit Bear! Spirit Bear is a great source of intrigue, as is the First Nations legend how this unique bear came to be. When Raven first created the world, everything was white. After some time, Raven decided the world needed colour, but as the ice began to melt, people started fighting over the land that appeared. Years passed, more and more animals changed colour and the world became more beautiful than ever, but the people kept fighting over everything. So, Raven decided to remind them where they came from by turning one in every ten bears white. To this day, Spirit Bear, also called the Kermode Bear, still wanders the islands of British Columbia to bring this message to the world. Legendary bear, legendary coin! 2017 Kilo'In The Eyes of the Timber Wolf' $250 Silver Coin. 9999Fine(18007)(NT)

Equipped with superior peripheral and night vision, the timber wolf (Canis lupus occidentalis) surveys the wilds of western Canada with an unforgettable intensity in its gaze, which only adds to its mysterious allure. This elusive, powerful yet social species is the special focus of the fourth coin in an ongoing series, which features enamel-enhanced portraits of Canadas wildlife. The reverse design by Canadian artist Pierre Leduc features a detailed portrait of a timber wolf (Canis lupus occidentalis), also known as the Mackenzie Valley wolf. A close view of the wolfs facial features dominates the reverse, where the application of gold-toned enamel immediately pulls the focus towards its unforgettable stare. The colour effect adds a glowing intensity to each iris while darkening the pupils; breaking free from this locked gaze, a study of the wolfs other facial features shows an outstanding amount of detail. Advanced finishing and shading techniques enhance the intricate engraving and provide a breathtaking sense of depth, texture and contrast to the wolfs ears, nose, mouth and fur. Lock eyes with one of western Canadas iconic wolf species! Fourth in the annual series of 99.99% pure silver 1-kilogram coins featuring selective enamel-enhanced portraits of Canadas iconic wildlife. Gold-toned enamel adds a colourful intensity to the eyes as they seemingly stare directly at the viewer. The artistry and craftsmanship ensure a life-like feel to the image, as made evident by the remarkably textured appearance of the wolfs thick fur. Making Change: The Story of the Canadian Penny. On January 2, 1908, Countess Alice Grey, wife of Canada’s ninth Governor-General, Albert Henry George Grey, had the honour of striking Canada’s first domestically produced coin: a 1-cent piece. But the Canadian penny itself had already been alive and well for half a century by then.. 1858: Of Tokens and Copper Buttons. When Upper Canada (Ontario) and Lower Canada (Quebec) were united into the Province of Canada in 1841, Spanish and American silver and gold, British sovereigns, and copper tokens – even copper buttons – circulated alongside one another. By 1858, however, standardized decimal coins bearing the word “CANADA” were circulated in bronze in a 1-cent denomination and silver in 5-cent, 10-cent, and 20-cent denominations. 1920: Two Maple Leaves On a Smaller Penny. The Royal Mint introduced a new design for the penny, created by Fred Lewis, featuring two maple leaves flanking the words “ONE CENT” beneath the word “CANADA” on the coin’s reverse side. The Mint also reduced the penny’s diameter. 1967: The Penny Takes Flight to Celebrate Confederation. To celebrate Canada’s centennial, famed Canadian artist Alex Colville created a special commemorative set of coin designs for 1967. His design for the 1-cent piece – an image of the rock dove in flight – is still found in circulation today. 2012: The Canadian Penny’s Last Year. Since Countess Grey struck the first Canadian-minted penny in 1908, more than 35 billion have been produced. In 2012, the Government of Canada announced its decision to eliminate the penny from Canada’s coinage system. Though the humble penny will one day disappear from our midst, its unique role in the history of Canadian coinage remains timeless. And the penny itself, though perhaps no longer present in our pockets, will always hold a special place in our hearts. Please wait my adjusted invoice before you check-out.
