1892-2017 Canada 125th Anniversary of Stanley Cup 3 oz $50 Fine Silver Coin

In 1892, the Governor General of Canada, Lord Stanley, donated a silver bowl for the purpose of fostering a competitive spirit between Canada’s amateur hockey teams. From this expression of support sprung a rich legacy, as the Stanley Cup evolved into one of the most revered trophy in professional sportsand a celebrated icon in Canada. The Royal Canadian Mint is proud to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the Stanley Cup’s origins, with a one-of-a-kind shaped coin that pays tribute to hockey’s ultimate prize. A coin all NHL fans simply must have! AN OUTSTANDING ROYAL CANADIAN MINT FIRST! Introducing the first ever Stanley Cup shaped coin! A STUNNING REPLICA OF THE CUP! Struck in a beautiful reverse proof finish, your coin is a stunning replica of the Cupalbeit on a smaller scale. CELEBRATES THE 125TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE STANLEY CUP! A one-of-a-kind way to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Stanley Cup and its rich history. The Royal Canadian Mint certifies all of its collector coins. 99.9% PURE SILVER COIN! Your coin is GST/HST exempt! LIMITED MINTAGE: Only 5,000 coins will be made worldwide! Developed by the Royal Canadian Mint’s team of R&D specialists, engineers and engravers, this pure silver coin has a unique shape that is instantly recognisable to hockey fans that have ever dreamed of hoisting the Stanley Cup at centre ice. The reverse design presents a reduced-scale replica of the illustrious hockey trophy, all in a magnificent reverse proof finish. Detailed engraving recreates the ringed appearance of the Cup’s rounded barrel base, topped by the silver bowl that replicates the one donated by the Governor General of Canada, Lord Stanley. The finer details are enhanced by the application of different finishes that alter the way light reflects off the coin’s silver surface, thus infusing the innovative design with a life-like sense of depth and dimension. The Stanley Cup is made of a silver and nickel alloy; it measures 89.54 centimetres tall and weighs 15.5 kilograms. It was retired in 1970 but remains on display at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Ontario. The bowl had an initial base ring; by 1902, there was no room left to engrave the winning team’s name. Teams then began engraving their names on the bowl itselfincluding the 1906-07 Montreal Wanderers, who were the first to inscribe their name inside the bowl and the first to engrave their full roster. Today, there is a limit of 52 engraved names from each winning team. Some player and even team names appear misspelled on the Cup, including the 1980-81 New York “Ilanders” and the 1971-72 “Bqstqn” Bruins. Henri Richard’s name appears a record 11 times on the Cup as a player, while Scotty Bowman appears nine times as a coach; team-wise, the Montreal Canadiens hold the record with 24 Stanley Cup wins, including a record five in a row between 1956 and 1960. The five-band barrel offers enough room on the Cup to engrave 13 winning teams. When all the rings are full, the oldest band (at the top) is removed and preserved at the Hockey Hall of Fame, while a new band is added to the bottom of the Cup. Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded rectangular black clamshell with NHL branded beauty box. 99.9% pure silver. I do leave feedback for everyone. Artist Tami Mayrand presents a symbolic homage to Canada through the classic images that broadly define what it means to be Canadian. Each engraved icon represents a Canadian theme or idea; united by an application of red paint, they form the distinctive silhouette of a predominant Canadian symbol: the maple leaf. Within this pointed outline, the nation’s geography, flora and fauna are well represented by various silhouettes: a mountain peak; small maple leaves; pine cones; an evergreen tree; birds in flight; a wolf; a moose; polar bear; squirrel; sea lion; bear; bison; a Canadian Inuit dog; and our national symbol, the beaver. A blade of wheat and a bottle of maple syrup highlight some of Canada’s most famous agricultural exports, while a hatchet alludes to the forests that have shaped the nation’s history. Inukshuks and a tepee pay tribute to the history and richly varied cultural traditions of Canada’s First Nations peoples, while a schooner, whale tail, salmon, and orca are a nod to Canada’s coasts. Canada’s innovative spirit is well represented by an icon of the aeronautic industry, and the tower that defines Toronto’s skyline. But most prominent of all is our love for the great outdoors, and the pastimes we enjoy through the seasons, as illustrated by: snowflakes; a snowman; a curling stone; a snowmobile; sprig of holly; a canoe; a Muskoka chair; figure skates; winter gear; and ski equipment. A puck, helmet and skate are included to reflect a nation’s fervent passion for its winter sport, including a hockey stick that forms the maple leaf’s petiole. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell with Canada 150 themed black beauty box. 99.99% pure silver. Tami Mayrand (reverse), Susanna Blunt (obverse). It became a primary motivator for the European explorers of the 17th century to forego their search for a passage to Asia and to focus instead on the natural resources offered by the North American continent. Surface areas that appear black on some proof coin photos are actually highly polished, mirror-bright metal reflecting the color of the camera. We often include proof coin photos with the coin slightly tilted to better depict the mirror bright surfaces. However, tilting the coin may resulting one side being slightly out of focus. Whenever possible, we use actual photos of our coins, rather than just stock artwork from the Mint. The entire reverse is a full-colour hologram, lending movement and light to this highly symbolic image.. Thunderbird, a supernatural creature prominent in Northwest Coast Indian myths. Thunder and lightning are attributed to the thunderbird, which produces thunder by flapping its wings and lightning by opening and closing its eyes. Individuals who had been struck by lightning and survived often became Shamans, for they had received the power of the monster bird. First coin in a new Ancient Canada series. Fossils, like the one depicted on your splash-struck coin, changed the way we think about feathered dinosaurs. By studying three specimens found in the Badlands of Alberta, paleontologists concluded that. Was covered in down-like feathers that, as the dinosaur matured, developed into long feathers on its arms to form primitive wings. This suggests wings appeared much earlier in the evolutionary timelineand were first used for display rather than flight! A fun fossil coin that comes beautifully packaged in a ready-to-display floating frame, ideal for work or home! MADE LIKE AN ANCIENT ROMAN COIN! Using an old coin-making technique, your coin does not have a rim; instead, the 99.99% pure silver was allowed to spill beyond a traditional round shape to give your coin a slightly irregular shapejust like an ancient Roman coin! Due to its irregular shape, your coin may be larger and flatter but will always have a minimum diameter of 38 mm! Each coin will vary, which makes your coin truly unique! ATTENTION TO HISTORICAL ACCURACY! Verified by Alberta’s Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology, your coin uses precision engraving to recreate the fossil remains and the textured appearance of sandstonemuch like the rock in which the original fossil was found! ANTIQUE FINISH APPLIED BY HAND! To enhance the detailed engraving of the fossil and its sandstone-like surroundings, a stunning patina finish has been painstakingly applied to your coin by hand. This gives your coin an antiqued appearance that reflects the series’ historical theme! NO PLASTIC CAPSULE FOR A VISUALLY TACTILE EXPERIENCE! Since your coin’s irregular shape does not fit in a typical plastic capsule, your coin instead is packaged in a ready-to-display floating frame! Measuring 80 mm x 80 mm x 34 mm, this framed presentation makes for one-of-a-kind wall art and a sure conversation pieceit will seem like the fossil is embedded in your wall! Your coin’s antique finish is sealed in lacquer, which should minimize the appearance of fingerprints if the coin is accidentally removed from its frame. A fun font with a prehistoric appearance was used on both sides of your coin to give an overall aged appearance! The Royal Canadian Mint certifies all of its collector coins. Most of these are serialized certifications, meaning that each certificate is given a unique number, starting at 1. Variations of dreamcatchers are representative of cultures across each Canadian province, but they all have the same intention: to trap bad dreams and thoughts, and let good dreams pass through the hole at the web’s center, and into the mind of the dreamer. Each coin unites First Nations tradition with modern-day technology: a dreamcatcher set against a shiny holographic field. Each coin is a unique work of art!
