2012 Canada Farewell to the Penny 5 coin Fine Silver Set

2012 Canada Farewell to the Penny 5 coin Fine Silver Set. The year 2012 marks the end of production of Canada’s 1-cent piece. To celebrate the penny’s long history, the Royal Canadian Mint is offering a series of commemorative pennies rendered in exquisite alloy and finishes. Each of the five coins in this exceptional commemorative set of five Canadian 1-cent coins is certified to be 99.99% pure silver. This unique set celebrates the evolution of Canada’s penny from its first striking at the Royal Mint in Ottawa (later the Royal Canadian Mint) in 1908 to the 1-cent coin’s final striking at the Royal Canadian Mint’s Winnipeg branch in 2012. The reverse features the maple wreath design that had been present on Canadian 1-cent coins since the Victorian era, framing a central field featuring the words’ONE CENT’ and the year of production. The obverse features the effigy of King Edward VII. At the same time, a new reverse design featuring the word’CANADA’ was introduced. The obverse continued to feature the effigy of King George V, though complications in 1936 caused by the abdication of King George V’s successor, Edward VIII, led the Mint to modify the 1936 dies in order to produce never-circulated George V’dot cents’ in the event of a delay in production of 1937 coinage. 1967: To celebrate Canada’s centennial, Canadian artist Alex Colville created a special commemorative reverse design for the penny featuring a rock dove in flight. This shape was maintained until 1997, when the penny became round again until its final striking in 2012. The obverse has featured four different effigies of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II since 1953. The effigy introduced in 1990, which appears on the coin in this set, was the first to be created by a Canadian: Dora de Pedery-Hunt. Reverse: Small leaves design. Obverse: Effigy of King Edward VII. Composition: Pure Silver 99.99% Ag. Weight (g): 2.94. Diameter (mm): 19.1. Obverse: Effigy of King George V. Reverse: Two maple leaves design. Obverse: Effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The gold plating is more intricate than anything seen before especially along the delicate, tendril-like branches that reach up into the sky. Painted leaves also complement the engraving by introducing luminous colors that shimmer and subtly shift in the light. The result: A spellbinding work of art that is both beautiful and meaningful. A deeply meaningful gift for any loved one celebrating a birthday, anniversary, or a milestone event! A celebration of a powerful symbolic image that is well known in many cultures across Canada, and around the world! MORE INTRICATE THAN EVER SEEN BEFORE! Crafted from 99.99% pure silver, the complex engraving is enhanced by the application of color and a beautiful gold plating that is more intricate than ever seen before! Only 6,500 coins will be made available worldwide. The Royal Canadian Mint certifies all of its collector coins. ONE-OUNCE 99.99% PURE SILVER COIN! For our Canadian customers, this coin is GST/HST exempt! Designed by Canadian artist Steve Hepburn, the coin offers a beautifully artistic interpretation of a tree of life as a representation of the different aspects of our existence. Spreading out beneath the earth, the gold-plated roots anchor the tree and provide a solid foundation for its trunk, which represents one’s identity and core beliefs. The curled branches that represent growth as an individual strike a golden contrast next to the painted leaves, which represent the fruits of our labour in life. With all of its curved branches and intertwined roots, the complexities of this engraved design necessitate the application of more intricate gold plating than ever seen before. Just above the earth is the engraved word “CANADA” to the left of the tree, while the face value “20 DOLLARS” and the year “2018″ are engraved on the right side. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. Different concepts of the tree of life have appeared in theology, philosophy, biology, and mythology. The idea of a “tree of life” or “a sacred tree” is found in many early mythologies. To many, the tree of life represents the connection between all forms of life on Earth, and as a link between heaven and our terrestrial world. The tree of life has been popularized by modern jewelry design, where it symbolizes different notions such as knowledge, wisdom, security, and strength, or as a beautiful celebration of life! Each coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell protected by a black beauty box. So our costs for Canadian coins also vary from day to day. Unsearched All of the coins offered in this listing are unsearched. Many coin dealers search all coins when they are received from the Mint. They “cherry-pick” the best coins. Then submit them to be graded, certified, and slabbed by PCGS, NGC, ANACS, etc. When a dealer searches coins, those that they sell in original Mint packaging are only lesser quality coins. Photos: When a listing offers multiples of the same coin, one coin is picked at random and photographed. Since all coins offered in that listing are essentially identical, the coin photographed is representative of all coins offered. Surface areas that appear black on some proof coin photos are actually highly polished, mirror-bright metal reflecting the color of the camera. We place the coin at an angle, in some photos, to better depict the mirror bright finishes. However, angling the coin usually results in one side of the coin being slightly out of focus. Whenever possible, we use actual photos of our coins, rather than just artists conception drawings from the Mint. We frequently update and upgrade the photos that appear with our listings, using improved cameras and lenses and better lighting. We will honor your requests for additional photos as quickly as our schedule permits. The item “Canada 2018 $20 Tree of Life 1 oz.
