In Canada’s far-northern latitudes, where solitude and beauty meet, nature takes centre stage with a celestial light show that once seen, is certainly not forgotten. The sight of the aurora borealis is both mystical and mesmerizing as shimmering waves of dream-like colours dance overhead, weaving their way across the star-studded sky. Joining in with a chorus of their own, wolves pierce the silence of the night with a howl that seems to linger in the crisp air. Whether it is directed at the pack, the moon or the aurora itself, this haunting cry of the wild further heightens the sense of awe felt by those who bear witness to this colourful opus, and envy in others who long to experience it. In the natural world, the aurora borealis occurs when charged particles emitted by a solar flare collide with the atoms in Earth’s atmosphere, creating bursts of light called photons. When enough photons are released, the result is a luminous mix of green, red, yellow and orange colours that light up the dark night sky. BEST VIEWED IN THE DARK! The full effect of your coin is best viewed in the dark after placing it in a light source for 30 to 60 seconds. This enhances the ethereal quality of the aurora borealis by adding a varying intensity of green, yellow, pink and orange hues, while recreating the soft glow of a moonlit night on the snow-covered landscape below. 99.99% pure silver. 2014 Canada Fine Silver Coin, Water-lily and Venetian Glass Leopard Frog

2014 Canada Fine Silver Coin, Water-lily and Venetian Glass Leopard Frog

2014 Canada Fine Silver Coin, Water-lily and Venetian Glass Leopard Frog. This is the fourth coin of a much sought-after series featuring hand-crafted Venetian glass creatures. Found in Canadian province and Territory except Yukon and Nunavut, the leopard frog is aptly named for the irregularly shaped black spots that dot its brown, greenish-brown, or green skin. It lives in a variety of habitats including wetlands in prairies and woodlands in summer for feeding. In the fall it usually moves to ponds, streams, and rivers which do not freeze to the bottom. In the spring it emerges to seek out ponds and marshes for breeding. It is there that the tadpoles will develop. The leopard frog consumes nearly any animal that fits in its mouth, be it insects, worms, smaller frogs and even birds or garter snakes. The hunter becomes the hunted if it encounters predators such as fish, water snakes, turtles, herons, raccoons or even larger frogs. These freshwater perennials are remarkable plants. At the surface, their buoyant evergreen leaves form a canopy that become resting places for dragonflies, beetles and even small turtles. Nine species are native to Canada, including the widespread yellow pond lily. Often dotted with a large, fragrant blossom that opens in the morning sun and closes in the afternoon, these plants are anchored to the muddy lakebed by a long stalk. A glimpse underneath these lily pads reveals a wealth of wildlife competing for cover, making these plants essential to their aquatic ecosystems. Special features. Your stunning coin’s Venetian glass leopard frog was handcrafted by master glassmaker Giuliano Donaggio in Murano, Italy. Murano glass is world-renowned for its bright colours, which beautifully showcases the leopard frog upon a full colour, engraved lily pad. Your coin is the fourth in a series that pair engraved and painted flowers with a beautifully detailed rendering of a creature that is native to Canada’s natural landscape. Your coin depicts a leopard frog peacefully basking in the sun’s rays atop a bright green water-lily pad, next to the plant’s yellow bloom. An impressive gift for nature enthusiasts or conservationists to commemorate a special occasion. A spectacular addition to your nature- or Canadiana-themed collection. Your coin is GST/HST exempt with a limited worldwide mintage. Design: Your coin was designed by Canadian artist Maurice Gervais and features an engraved and painted Yellow Pond Lily (Nuphar variegatum) that occupies the left side of the image field. The blossom is in fool bloom, its outer cup shaped petals opened to reveal the circular pattern of stamens cradled inside. A stunning, translucent green Leopard Frog made of Venetian glass and hand-crafted by Giuliano Donaggio – a master glassmaker in Murano, Italy – sits upon the engraved and coloured green lily pad leaf in the right portion of the image field. Packaging: Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-maroon box with black beauty box. Compositionfine silver (99.99% pure). Weight (g) 31.39. Enhanced with black light-activated technology, our THIRD Unexplained Phenomena coin is a colourfulretelling of a famous Canadian UFO event. The 1978 Clarenville Incident is a compelling account that can’t be easily dismissed since it involved several witnesses, including an RCMP officer who described a strange sight that has never been satisfactorily explained. October 26, 1978, 1:45 a. Responding to a call, RCMP Constable James Blackwood arrived at the scene in Clarenville, N. Where witnesses directed his attention to a brightly lit object in the sky. Using binoculars and a high-powered scope, they observed the fin-tailed, oval-shaped craft as it hovered above the water near Random Island. It emitted no sound; and when the officer flashed the lightbar on his police cruiser, the mysterious craft instantly mimicked the lights. It remained in the area for nearly an hour before rising up suddenly and vanishing into the night, leaving no trace of its passage except a credible eyewitness account. BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND. Fine silver rectangular coin gives you a front row seat to a famous Canadian UFO event: the 1978 incident at Clarenville, N. THIRD COIN IN THE SERIES. From unusual sightings to strange encounters, this series brings you some of Canada’s most fascinating tales of unexplained phenomena. For our third UFO tale, the coin features a landscape orientation that allows for a sweeping waterfront view, and an expressive art style that gives it a distinct Newfoundland vibe. Use the black light flashlight (included) to activate the coin’s glow-in-the-dark features, and you’ll see the bright lights described by the witnesses. LOW MINTAGE, HIGH DEMAND. Mintage is limited to just 5,000 coins worldwide and it will likely be a sought-after piece. So hurry, order yours today! The reverse design by Adam Young is an artistic representation of a 1978 UFO event that took place in Clarenville, N. Rendered in a colourful and expressive art style, the landscape-oriented image shows the event from the perspective of the witnesses, including the RCMP officer whose police cruiser appears in the bottom right corner. The oval-shaped craft is seen hovering over Random Sound on a clear night. Black light-activated technology adds a bright glow to the mysterious object and its illuminated reflection on the water. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. I wanted this piece to include all the elements of the 1978 experience while also incorporating the rugged yet whimsical coastline so often found in the Newfoundland landscape. Light and line direction were also important aspects of the design, creating a circular visual flow throughout the composition. This has been an exciting artistic endeavor, which, throughout my research for the design, has caused me to tumble down the rabbit hole of other Canadian UFO sightings. When I arrived at the wharf, people were milling about and looking up at the sky in disbelief. What struck me the most was the size and brightness of the object, and the lack of noise everything was so quiet. Expert: James Blackwood, Eyewitness: The Expert. Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded clamshell with a black beauty box. 99.99% Pure Silver. 49.8mm X 28.6mm. Adam Young (reverse), Susanna Blunt (obverse).
