The jingle of bells, the patter of hooves these are the sounds many children yearn to hear each Christmas Eve. This pure silver coin rekindles that sense of wonder and enchantment. The colorful clarity of Murano glass lends itself beautifully to recreating one of Santa’s reindeer in outstanding detail. Pulling the toy-laden sleigh from rooftop to rooftop on a snowy night, the glass reindeer is the perfect reminder that magic is in the air during this festive season. An ideal Christmas present this winter holiday! The Murano-glass reindeer features a breathtaking amount of colorful detail from the dark-colored antlers and hooves, to the bell-dotted harness that famously jingles on this magical night. Expertly handcrafted by Italian glassmakers, each Murano glass reindeer is unique to each coin. With an outstanding amount of details on such a small scale, each reindeer is testament to the centuries-old techniques that have made Murano glass such a highly prized art form. A TREASURED CHRISTMAS KEEPSAKE! The artistry on the coin helps preserve fun memories of holidays past and present, which often set the tone for a lifetime of special holiday moments. Only 5,000 coins will be made available worldwide, a lower mintage than last year’s Murano holiday coin. The Royal Canadian Mint certifies all of its collector coins. ONE-OUNCE 99.99% PURE SILVER COIN! For our Canadian customers, this coin is GST/HST exempt! Designed by Canadian artist Anna Bucciarelli, the coin takes to the skies on Christmas Eve to capture the magic of the holiday season! The snow-blanketed setting below features color over engraving that re-creates mountains, tall evergreens, and a row of homes. As night falls, indoor lighting casts a warm glow from within, while just beyond a front door lies a snowman that hints at the presence of children. But the viewer’s gaze naturally gravitates towards the “sky” that fills most of the field, where precision-engraved snowflakes are as unique and intricate as their real-life counterparts. Laden with toys and gifts, Santa’s red and gold-colored sleigh makes its way through this gentle snowfall, pulled by an exquisite Murano glass reindeer. The colorful reindeer-shaped piece is handcrafted by Italian glassmakers, and is unique to each coin. The reverse also features the engraved word “CANADA”, the year “2018″ and the face value “20 DOLLARS”. Aside from Rudolph, can you name Santa’s eight original reindeer? They were first introduced in the 1823 poem A Visit From St. Nicholas (more commonly known as Twas the Night Before Christmas), credited to Clement Clarke Moore. They are: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen. Rudolph was introduced in a children’s book published in 1939, but became one of Santa’s most famous reindeer after the release of the 1949 Christmas song now a beloved holiday standard! “Donner” and “Blitzen” are of German origin, meaning “thunder” and “lightning” (respectively) but that’s not quite how these two reindeer were originally known. When the poem was originally published in 1823, their names were “Dunder” and Blixem” two Dutch words meaning “thunder” and “lightning. ” This was changed to “Donder and Blitzen” in 1844, and finally “Donner and Blitzen in the 1949 song that made Rudolph famous. Check your pockets: there’s a “reindeer” on one of Canada’s circulation coins! Reindeer are more commonly referred to as “caribou” in North America. With a few exceptions, Canada’s 25-cent coin has typically featured Rangifer tarandus on its reverse since 1937, when Emanuel Hahn’s caribou design was first introduced. Each coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell protected by a black beauty box. Unsearched All of the coins offered in this listing are unsearched. Many coin dealers search all coins when they are received from the Mint. They “cherry-pick” the best coins. Then submit them to be graded, certified, and slabbed by PCGS, NGC, ANACS, etc. When a dealer searches coins, those that they sell in original Mint packaging are only lesser quality coins. Photos: When a listing offers multiples of the same coin, one coin is picked at random and photographed. Since all coins offered in that listing are essentially identical, the coin photographed is representative of all coins offered. These photos were taken through the plastic coin capsules, any dust, etc. On the outside surface of the capsules doesnt affect the coins. Surface areas that appear black on some proof coin photos are actually highly polished, mirror-bright metal reflecting the color of the camera. We place the coin at an angle, in some photos, to better depict the mirror bright finishes. However, angling the coin usually results in one side of the coin being slightly out of focus. Whenever possible, we use actual photos of our coins, rather than just artists conception drawings from the Mint. We frequently update and upgrade the photos that appear with our listings, using improved cameras and lenses and better lighting. We will honor your requests for additional photos as quickly as our schedule permits. The item “2018 $20 Holiday Reindeer 1 oz.
