2011, 1 Kilo Coin, $250 Pure Silver Coin Canada, First European Anniversary
J & M Coin and Jewellery. Lacrosse is sport, legend, culture and history combined-a unique feature of the Canadian identity that emerged when European colonists encountered First Nations society. One of the first European documentations of this powerful sport is believed to have been written 375 years ago in 1636 by Jesuit missionary Jean de Brébeuf from Condé-sur-Vire (France). Brébeuf became acquainted with baggataway (original name for Lacrosse) while living among the Hurons. Countless tribes engaged in? The Creator’s Game, ? Firm in the belief the Creator invented the game for His own amusement. Players took to the field with the highest ideals. Lacrosse was a training ground for young warriors and was a non-warring means to settle tribal disputes. Players were determined to bring honour and glory to their teammates and to their tribes. Matches could cover vast territories and last months at a time. In an effort to intimidate their opponents, players covered their faces with war paint; a ritual believed to be the inspirationbehind the modern custom of painting hockey goalie masks. Detailed engraving masterfully recreates the rough texture of the fissured bark, upon which lays the beloved Canadian icon: a maple leaf. It, too, is resplendent in full colour against the muted colours of the tree trunk, while shadows subtly infuse the breathtaking design with a sense of light, depth and dimension. Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded wood case with a graphic beauty box that compliments the coin’s design. 2012 Edition – 1200 Mintage. Fine Silver Hologram Coin – A Story of the Northern Lights: Howling Wolf – Mintage: 8500 (2014). Of respondents would recommend this to a friend. One of A kind (12). Pricey / poor value (8). Gift for child (4). Quality driven (21), Budget shopper (4). Was this a gift? No (25), Yes (4). Reviewed by 30 customers. One Of A Kind. Great coin and comes in a great storage box. Yes, I would recommend this to a friend. Was this review helpful? You may also flag this review. As a collector, I found the hologram effects to be a bit lacking. I was expecting more from such a pricey coin. Other than that, the overall representation of the howling wolf and the Northern Lights is very eye-catching. Customers found this review helpful. No Cons-the Perfect Coin. The holographic effect is stunning. Just in time as it turns out. I cannot understand why some complain about the poor holographic effect. My coin is flamboyant under natural and artificial light. Maybe there is some spread during minting. The value and quality of this coin is (to me) much higher than that of any colored one. I hope that it will not tarnish for a long time, because I fear that the oxidation will destroy the effect. The only con: poor artistic image of the wolf. The front legs seem out of proportion (too thin). Hard To See Hologram. Beautiful design though have to hold the coin up to the light to really see the Hologram effect. A most Beautiful Coin. A Lover Of Art, Quality Driven. This is a Gift for my son. He loves wolves and this coin is perfect because not only is it a beautiful Wolf but the hologram effect of the Northern Lights is stupendous. Keep up the good work RCM. Bargain Hunter, Quality Driven. It’s a Beauty, Eh! Lovely addition to collection. After having read other comments about not being able to see the colors & knowing that it’s probably just how it was being held I took a chance and bought this coin. It’s not in-your-face color as some may have liked it to be. It’s more subtle but you can see various colors which come alive as you turn the coin. Love the wolf/northern lights theme. Comes in plastic encasement presented in a a nice little hinged box with cert. Possibly will give this as gift to a nephew. Canadian Collector, Quality Driven. Great Addition To The Col. It’s so awesome to see the shimmering Aurora Borealis as I turn the coin in the light. Another remarkable product of the Royal Canadian Mint. Hologram not as visible as in the pictur. Not sure if a quality issue but cannot get the colours as per the picture -? No, I would not recommend this to a friend. Do you have questions about this product? An eagle soaring overhead is an inspiring sight. For First Nations people, the eagle is a symbol of power, peace and prestige. The eagle is an important clan crest and is often the subject of totems, masks, prints and jewellery. Its feathers are considered sacred and are often an important part of ancient ceremonies, used to waft incense smoke around individuals during prayer, and given to honour individual acts of courage or wisdom.
