Few would contest the cougars reputation as a stealthy hunter that relies on its keen senses to survive in remote areas of western Canada. Its exceptional vision is uniquely adapted to allow the cougar to hunt its prey during any time of day a feature that is beautifully showcased in this coin. The reverse image by Canadian artist Glen Loates offers a close-up portrait of the cougar (Felis concolor). Here, the shy predators piercing gaze is decidedly fixed upon the viewer as though each one is studying the other. But the selective use of coloured enamel ensures the female cougars eyes are the images focal point; the distinctive greenish hue recreates the light-reflective qualities of the animals eyes, which are protected from the bright light conditions by the contracted pupils. The large cats facial features are also rendered in fine detail, from its short fur to its visible whiskers and attentive ears. A unique opportunity to get a close view of a cougar a formidable predator that relies on its exceptional vision to capture its prey. This finely detailed rendering of the cougars facial features exemplify the Royal Canadian Mints internationally renowned artistry and craftsmanship. EXREMELY LOW MINTAGE OF 750. Sculpted by relentless winds, grinding ice and bitter cold, the vast, open Canadian Arctic landscape embodies the ancient spirit of Earth’s glacial past. Locked in twilight for much of the year, cast in blinding contrast for its few months of midnight sun, the Canadian Arctic is like no other place on Earth. For Canadians, the Arctic represents not only a massive component of the nation’s geography and the interconnectedness of Canadian lands from sea to sea to sea, but the source of the ice, snow and cold that has carved out not only the land but the soul of this country. Mapped by Canadian explorers such as those of the 1913 Canadian Arctic Expedition, the lands, waterways and continental shelves extending from the Northwest Passage to the nearer North are sovereign Canadian territories that play an important role in the heritage of Canada’s people, geography and environment. An exceptional and valuable addition to any nature-themed or Canadiana-focused collection. Special features: Your one-kilogram coin’s large size is the perfect canvas for a spectacularly rendered detailed landscape portrait of the vast Canadian Arctic. Be one of only 750 people in the world to own this premium pure silver kilogram coin. Design: Your coin was designed by Canadian artist W. David Ward and presents a highly detailed portrait of the north shore of Baffin Island, overlooking Lancaster Sound, at the mouth of the Northwest Passagea region that evokes the Arctic’s various landscape elements: icebergs, glaciers, mountains, ice plains and frozen waters. Amid the semi-frozen sea water of Lancaster Sound, dotted with masses of ice, large icebergs float majestically under a cloud-filled sky. In the distance, on both sides of the Sound, jagged glacier-topped mountains rise against the horizon. Packaging: Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a custom maple wood box lined with flock and protected by a black sleeve. Fine silver (99.99% pure). David Ward (reverse), Susanna Blunt (obverse). 1 Kilo Fine Silver Coin – Canadas Arctic Landscape – Mintage: 750 (2013). Of respondents would recommend this to a friend. Was this a gift? Its impressive to look at and hold. Received my coin today. A great design, wonderful for a kilo coin. I’ve already commented on how great this coin looks, but I’ve just noticed that the wooden box it’s displays in is “made in Canada”. I just received the coin today. This is the most beautiful coin I have ever seen. The next month “The Mint” produced one. ” The Mint” do read minds? It may be expensive, but it’s worth every penny. You made my day! One of A kind (12). Pricey / poor value (8). Gift for child (4). Quality driven (21), Budget shopper (4). No (25), Yes (4). Reviewed by 30 customers. One Of A Kind. Great coin and comes in a great storage box. As a collector, I found the hologram effects to be a bit lacking. I was expecting more from such a pricey coin. Other than that, the overall representation of the howling wolf and the Northern Lights is very eye-catching. No Cons-the Perfect Coin. The holographic effect is stunning. Just in time as it turns out. I cannot understand why some complain about the poor holographic effect. My coin is flamboyant under natural and artificial light. Maybe there is some spread during minting. The value and quality of this coin is (to me) much higher than that of any colored one. I hope that it will not tarnish for a long time, because I fear that the oxidation will destroy the effect. The only con: poor artistic image of the wolf. The front legs seem out of proportion (too thin). Hard To See Hologram. Beautiful design though have to hold the coin up to the light to really see the Hologram effect. A most Beautiful Coin. A Lover Of Art, Quality Driven. This is a Gift for my son. He loves wolves and this coin is perfect because not only is it a beautiful Wolf but the hologram effect of the Northern Lights is stupendous. Keep up the good work RCM. Bargain Hunter, Quality Driven. It’s a Beauty, Eh! Lovely addition to collection. After having read other comments about not being able to see the colors & knowing that it’s probably just how it was being held I took a chance and bought this coin. It’s not in-your-face color as some may have liked it to be. It’s more subtle but you can see various colors which come alive as you turn the coin. Love the wolf/northern lights theme. Comes in plastic encasement presented in a a nice little hinged box with cert. Possibly will give this as gift to a nephew. Canadian Collector, Quality Driven. Great Addition To The Col. It’s so awesome to see the shimmering Aurora Borealis as I turn the coin in the light. Another remarkable product of the Royal Canadian Mint. Hologram not as visible as in the pictur. Not sure if a quality issue but cannot get the colours as per the picture -? No, I would not recommend this to a friend. Please feel free to make an offer and we might strike a deal!
