Beautiful coin with rose/golden toning! 1 ounce of 99.99% pure silver. It is a piedfort coin which means that it is thicker than other coins. So its diameter is slightly less at 34 mm. It comes in all original mint packaging. For more than 500 years some European mints have issued small quantities of double thickness “piedfort” coins for nobility, dignitaries and VIP collectors. Mintage is extremely limited at just 6,000. As a pure silver item this coin is HST/GST exempt. Literally means “strong foot” in French and appeared centuries ago to mean “heavy measure” in minting. Today, “piedfort” indicates that a coin is thicker than usual. Canada’s Coat of Arms features extensive symbolism about Canada’s history and what is important to our country. At the base of the Coat of Arms, a scroll displays the motto of Canada. “A MARI USQUE AD MARE”. (from sea to sea) with a garland of floral emblems – The English rose, the Scottish thistle, the Irish shamrock and the French lily. The shield features three royal lions of England, the royal lion of Scotland, the royal Irish harp of Tara and the royal fleur-di-lis of France in the upper quadrants. In the lower quadrants a sprig of three maple leaves represents Canadians of all origins. To the left of the shield is a lion holding a lance with the Union Jack, and at the right is a unicorn (a royal symbol of Scotland) holding the royal flag of France. Behind the shield is a ribbon that reads. (they desire a better country), while above the shield is a royal helmet draped with a mantle of maple leaves. Atop the royal helmet is the crest set on a wreath of twisted cloth and is comprised of a crowned lion holding a maple leaf in its paw. The imperial crown is above the crest representing the monarch as Canada’s Head of State. The reverse also features the date “2016″, and engraved word “CANADA”, and the denomination “25 Dollars”. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. GST or HST EXEMPT item. This huge low mintage 2015 pure silver five cent coin is the fourth coin in the 2015 “Big Coins” pure silver proof set. In addition to being spectacular looking coins, the coins in this series now form the top quality coin set in Canada, and individually represent the highest quality coin for each denomination. The reverse design features Canadian engraver Thomas Shingles’s Canadian Coat of Arms design. A lion holding a Union Jack flag on the left and a unicorn holding a flag bearing three French fleurs-de-lys on the right support a central shield divided into five sections bearing historical emblems of England, France, Scotland, and Ireland, as well as a sprig of three maple leaves. The shield is encircled with a ribbon representing the Order of Canada bearing the motto Desiderantes meliorem patriam, which means desiring a better country. The shield is surmounted by a royal helmet within a garland of maple leaves, upon which stands a crowned lion holding a maple leaf. Edward’s Crown, symbolizing Canada’s constitutional monarchy, rests above the lion, which symbolizes Canada’s sovereignty. The motto A Mari usque ad Mare (“from sea to sea”) appears in a ribbon below the shield, along with a “compartment” or garland composed of the floral emblems of England, Scotland, France, and Ireland. The coin is double struck to ensure fine detail and a near flawless surface, while the design is further enhanced with selective 24 karat gold plating on both sides, highlighting the coin’s main design and the effigy of the queen. The mintage of this coin and others in the Big Coins series is extremely low, with only 1,500 coins of each design being produced.
