Yours to own: A sea otter portrait that strikes a balance between gold and black rhodium plating. The third Black and Gold coin! One of the things nature does best is balance, and the sea otter is the perfect example: this adorable creature works hard, but it also makes time to float arm-in-arm (or paw-in-paw) with a loved one. Once hunted to the point of extinction, the sea otter has been reintroduced to British Columbia’s coastal waters, where its appetite keeps sea urchin populations in check-this, in turn, helps to restore and protect the kelp forests that are a critical habitat for hundreds of species. It’s all about balance. Which is beautifully represented on this coin’s dual-plated reverse. Own this gold and black rhodium-plated portrait of the lovable sea otter. Back by popular demand. 2022 Super Incuse SML $20 1OZ Proof Pure Silver Maple Leaf Rose Gold Plated Coin

2022 Super Incuse SML $20 1OZ Proof Pure Silver Maple Leaf Rose Gold Plated Coin

2022 Super Incuse SML $20 1OZ Proof Pure Silver Maple Leaf Rose Gold Plated Coin

2022 Super Incuse SML $20 1OZ Proof Pure Silver Maple Leaf Rose Gold Plated Coin

2022 Super Incuse SML $20 1OZ Proof Pure Silver Maple Leaf Rose Gold Plated Coin

After introducing a double-incuse Silver Maple Leaf (SML) coin in 2018, we followed it up with gold- (2019) and black rhodium-plated (2020) versions. We took art to all-new depths with the first Super Incuse SML in 2021. While the previous incuse coins had a standard incuse depth of 0.3 mm, thanks to new technology developed by our Research and Development team, on the Super Incuse SML the intricately engraved maple leaf sits 1.5 mm below the coin’s surface – that’s nearly 40% of the coin gauge! And for 2022, we enhanced the revolutionary Super Incuse SML with the addition of selective rose gold plating and maple leaf field pattern on both sides; truly a perfect fusion of modern technology and classic design. A REVOLUTIONARY COIN, NOW ENHANCED! We took art to new depths with the first ever Super Incuse SML coin, which is now enhanced with selective rose gold plating and maple leaf field pattern on both sides! Thanks to new technology developed by the Royal Canadian Mint’s R&D team, the maple leaf engraved on this coin’s reverse features an unprecedented incuse depth of 1.5 mm. A NEW TWIST ON A CLASSIC! With Super Incuse technology, you’ll see the SML’s maple leaf in a whole new way. The engraving is every bit as intricate and detailed as previous SML coins, but the extreme relief depth adds a new level of complexity to an already famous design. MODIFIED REVERSE PROOF FINISH! The lightly frosted field and brilliant relief practically guarantee all eyes will be on the super incuse maple leaf, which boasts a mirror-like shine. Don’t miss this opportunity to own the 2022 edition -order yours today! Limited to 7,000 coins worldwide. The Royal Canadian Mint certifies all of its collector coins. Your coin’s reverse features Walter Ott’s iconic sugar maple leaf design, unchanged since the first Silver Maple Leaf (SML) bullion coin issued in 1988. The famous maple leaf has been struck using Super Incuse technology, which gives it an incuse depth of 1.5 millimetres, and now enhanced with rose gold plating. A modified reverse proof finish ensures the focus is on the brilliant relief. The reverse also includes the engraved words “CANADA” and “FINE SILVER 1 OZ ARGENT PUR”, as well as the purity standard of “9999″. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt, along with the engraved face value “20 DOLLARS” and the year “2022″. The Engraver: Ryan Poser, Engraver. One of the challenges we faced with this coin’s super-incuse relief was the master tooling. With a standard design, we can polish the field with ease, as the relief is cut in the negative; in this case, we had to work around the incuse elements of the design, which required a bit more dexterity and focus. But with a bit of ingenuity and some elbow grease, we were able to take this iconic design to a whole other level! The Engineer: Yannick Cormier, Senior Research Engineer. Using the knowledge gained by developing EHR (Extraordinarily High Relief) technology, we were able to go from a standard incuse depth of 0.3 mm to an unprecedented 1.5 mm on this coin. EHR adds extreme height while Super Incuse adds extreme depth, but it’s a similar principle – we just inverted it. Still, we faced a lot of new challenges: there was the manufacturing of a reverse die that included the raised feature; concerns over friction between the blank and the dies (something you don’t have to worry about with EHR); and material movement is much more complex. Fortunately, Virtual Minting is a great engineering tool that helped us understand how to design the blank in order to create this coin. The SML’s iconic maple leaf is the same one that appears on the Gold Maple Leaf (GML) coin – in fact, that’s where it made its debut. The leaf on this coin is that of the sugar maple. True to its name, the sugar maple’s sap has the highest concentration of sugar, and that’s why this Canadian maple is prized by maple syrup producers. Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded clamshell with a black beauty box. 99.99% pure silver. I do leave feedback for everyone. 2022'The Sea Otter-Black and Gold' $20 Silver Fine 1oz Coin(RCM 203516)(20504)

Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded clamshell with a black beauty box. This coin’s reverse design is inspired by the yin yang symbol. No matter which way you view the design, you’ll always get a full glimpse of an adorable sea otter floating on its back. Black and gold rhodium. Yellow gold and black rhodium plating divide this coin’s design into two opposing but complementary elements. It is an inspiring representation of an industrious yet playful Canadian species, one that was hunted to extinction but is now mounting a comeback after its reintroduction to the coast of British Columbia. Coins, the black rhodium-plated portion of the reverse design features a matte gunmetal finish that strikes a dramatic contrast next to the yellow gold. It’s our way of playing with light and shadows to bring out details that are otherwise unseen in the other half of the design (and vice versa). 99.99% pure silver, with yellow gold and black rhodium plating. Sea otters love to float on their backs while resting and eating! They’ll hold hands or wrap themselves in kelp to keep from drifting away while sleeping. Without sea otters, herds of sea urchins are known to destroy kelp forests at a rate of 9 metres per month. Kelp forests provide a critical habitat for over 150 different species and ample prey for the sea otter, which needs to eat about 25 percent of its body weight daily. But its recovery on the B. Coast has had some unintended consequences, too: its voracious appetite has negatively impacted Indigenous coastal communities and fishers who have traditionally relied on shellfish harvesting. The circular reverse design by wildlife artist Claude Thivierge features a contrasting “yin and yang” portrait of the sea otter. Two adult sea otters are positioned in a way that represents opposite but complementary concepts, such as work and rest/play. Yellow gold and black rhodium plating clearly divide the design into two halves in order to highlight the importance of achieving balance in life, but also in nature, where the sea otter’s reintroduction to Canada’s Pacific coast has had a big impact on the marine ecosystem. The obverse features the gold-plated effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. For yin yang, this otter is ideal because it can be playful, dynamic and calm at the same time. I wanted the artwork to reflect this energy. I want it to be dynamic with movement and a certain tenderness and beauty in her eyes and her endearing friendly way. It also gives us the impression that the otter is lying down, floating on its back, which is the case because it spends a lot of time in this position resting, eating, sleeping and grooming.
