Along with the Fine Gold Kilo Coin, these unprecedented coins feature two designs that portray the story of Early Canada (2007) and Towards Confederation (2008), each masterpiece executed in both of these fine metals. This coin depicts Canada’s diverse Native heritage surrounded by a wreath of maple leaves, the internationally renowned symbol of Canada. Only 2,500 Fine Silver Kilo coins were minted available worldwide. The story behind the design of this masterpiece Canada\’s diverse and abundant wildlife play the central role in the coin’s design: a grizzly bear with a salmon in its mouth to represent the west coast, a plains bison for the prairies, a moose and a beaver for the central and eastern regions and a wolf and caribou for the north. The First Peoples are represented in this design, both as individuals and through their distinctive building forms which were influenced by the geography, climate and the available building materials: the totem pole is found on the left side of the coin and represents the West Coast, the tipi is placed centrally in the design to represent the prairies, the wigwam is placed to the right side of the coin to represent Eastern Canada, and the Inukshuk of the North is placed near the top of the design. This coin design also displays Canada’s rugged geography. The left side of the coin represents the West Coast with both ocean and mountains, while centrally the design conveys both Prairies and inland waters. To the right side of the coin is the rugged East Coast Ocean, which then transforms into the barren lands of the North. Coin comes encapsulated with black beauty box and custom outer sleeve. 2011 Canada $250 1 Kilo Pure Silver Coin 375th Anniversary of Lacrosse

375th Anniversary of Lacrosse. Upon noticing that the playing stick resembled a bishop’s croisier, he renamed the game la crosse. To the First Nations people, lacrosse was much more than play. Players took to the field with the highest ideals. Lacrosse was a training ground for young warriors and was a non-warring means to settle tribal disputes. Players were determined to bring honour and glory to their teammates and to their tribes. Matches could cover vast territories and last months at a time. In an effort to intimidate their opponents, players covered their faces with war paint; a ritual believed to be the inspiration behind the modern custom of painting hockey goalie masks. Coin comes encapsulated with black beauty box and black outer sleeve. Citadel Coins Halifax, Nova Scotia Official Royal Canadian Mint Distributor.

The people banded together in canoes, and tied their canoes to En cheki – now called Mount Garibaldi – so they would not drift away. An eagle caught salmon and dropped the fish into the canoes, giving the Squamish people sustenance and ensuring their survival. This story depicts the power of many working together. It also illustrates the power, connection and interdependence between man and nature. About the artist In May 2007, VANOC posted a request for proposal inviting Four Host First Nations artists and designers interested in working with VANOC to develop unique Aboriginal art-inspired designs for its merchandising program. An evaluation committee made up of VANOC representatives and external Aboriginal art experts carefully reviewed the responses creating a short list of artists to interview. After completion of the interviews, VANOC announced the selection of Xwa Lack tun based on his reputation, artwork and experience working in creative collaborations. Xwa Lack tun (Rick Harry) was born and raised in Squamish, British Columbia. His mother was originally from Squamish and Alert Bay (Coast Salish, Kwakiutl) while his father was Coast Salish (Squamish) and originally from the Seymour Creek area. Xwa Lack tun was given his indigenous name by his father – a hereditary chief. Healing and growth are a central theme around Xwa Lack tun’s work. By focusing on how traditional stories relate to his own life, he shows us how to use this ancient knowledge to help heal ourselves. The spreading of positive energy and seeing it come back through the children he works with in the Lower Mainland School Districts, is a reward that continues to feed Xwa Lack tun’s spirit. Xwa Lack tun’s work is internationally recognized. He has completed projects with galleries across North America and has been commissioned by private and corporate clients to create a wide array of artwork – including the widely recognized set of yellow cedar double doors, fully carved on both sides, for BC Hydro’s head office in Vancouver. In 2001, he was invited to Scotland to promote the country’s totem pole project. Respect for all people, regardless of race or religion, is a central theme in Xwa Lack tun’s work and his life. Coin comes encapsulated with black beauty box and custom outer sleeve. Citadel Coins Halifax, Nova Scotia Official Royal Canadian Mint Distributor.
