DESIGN The reverse design by Canadian artist Jori van der Linde presents a beautifully stylized portrait of a bee against a decorative floral backdrop. Inspired by tulip blooms and curly pea vines, a contemporary floral pattern provides a whimsical garden setting that includes flowers, leaves and curly flourishes. All are meticulously engraved and crisply defined in a stunning proof finish, which enhances the sparkle of the rhodium-plated bee on the coins surface. The jewellery-like piece is adorned with a captivating array of semi-precious and precious gemstones, including: round black sapphire on its head, thorax and abdomen; citrine stones arranged over gold plating to re-create the bees characteristic yellow markings; and an array of white topaz that fills the delicate wings and gives them a colourless twinkle, to mimic the luminous effect of sunlight. SPECIAL FEATURES – THE GEM OF YOUR COLLECTION: An EXQUISITE pairing of a gemstone-adorned bee on a 99.99% pure silver coin. HOW SWEET IT IS: The rhodium- and gold-plated bee gets its colourful sparkle from an array of precious and semi-precious gemstones (black sapphire, citrine and white topaz) that have been applied by hand. 99.99% pure silver. Silvia Pecota (reverse), Susanna Blunt (obverse). The economic hardships of the Great Depression had left Canada’s military undermanned and unprepared for the onset of war, and its equipment was at risk of being outdated. Thanks to a national recruitment drive, over 58,000 men and women enlisted by the month’s end. Coastal defences were reinforced, militia regiments were mobilized and the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP)which would eventually train nearly half of the Commonwealth’s air crews on Canadian soilwas implemented. In December, units of the 1st Canadian Infantry Division set sail from Halifax to Britainthe first wave of Canadians who would serve overseas until the war’s end in 1945. Meanwhile, Canada’s economy adapted quickly to the war effort and transformed the country into an economic power. New industries were created while existing factories converted to the production of wartime materials. Thousands of airplanes, ships, vehicles, guns and ammunition would be produced by factories in Canada, which became the fourth largest supplier among the Allied countries. A striking addition to any military or history-themed collection! Only the second time the Royal Canadian Mint has issued a full 2-ounce 99.99% pure silver coin at a sizable 54 mm diameter. This beautifully detailed 30-dollar coin commemorates the 75th anniversary of the Second World Wara conflict that had an immediate and long-lasting impact on Canada and the world. During the Second World War, Bomber Command operations over Occupied Europe, Germany and Italy represented Canadas biggest air commitment abroad, where tens of thousands of Canadians served in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and Royal Air Force (RAF). The Royal Canadian Mint reflects on the courage and sacrifice of these Canadians, who braved enemy fire and often-difficult flight conditions to complete their missions. FOURTH coin in the Second World War Battlefront Series, which chronicles Canadas participation in key battles of the Second World War. Honours the contributions of the roughly 40,000 Canadian men and women who served as part of Bomber Commandon the ground and in the skies over Occupied Europe, Germany and Italy. Struck with a proof finish in 99.99% pure silver, the design offers a sense of the danger and intensity of each mission during the Allied bombing offensive. Engraved in outstanding detail and with great care; which extends to the use of the effigy of King George VI on the obversethe same one that appeared on Canadas coins during the war. A great addition to any military or history-themed collection. A touching tribute to a loved one who served during the war, or a meaningful gift for those who have proudly served their countrythen and now. The reverse design by Canadian artist Glen Loates takes to the skies for a glimpse of the action during the Allied bombing offensive. Highly detailed engraving re-creates a representation of Avro Lancaster B. III bombers flying through a storm of flak (anti-aircraft fire) during a bombing mission over Germany. In the foreground, the Lancasters bomb bay doors are about to close after the aircraft has dropped its load. The aircrafts positioning allows for a close examination of the twin oval tail fins, its glasshouse canopy and transparent nose, along with two of its four Rolls Royce Merlin engines. At a lower height, two other Lancasters have just dropped their bomb loads in the background. At right, is a German Messerschmitt BF-109, a stalwart of the Luftwaffes fighting force; this aircrafts attack is cut short as it emits a trail of smoke after being hit by one of the Lancaster gunners.
