A TRIBUTE TO THE FIRST CANADIAN GOLD COIN. As Canadians reflect on our 150-year journey since Confederation, the Royal Canadian Mint looks back at a key milestone that is rooted in our historyours, and Canadas. This exclusive keepsake re-creates the first Canadian gold coin struck in 1912 in one kilogram of 99.99% pure silver, and features selective gold plating that adds an elegant touch of its original golden hue. The reverse features a near-faithful reproduction of W. Blackmores design for the first Canadian gold coin. The focal point is the Canadian coat of arms, as it appeared before 1921: a quartered shield composed of the provincial arms of the Dominion of Canada (Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick). Beautifully framed by a wreath of maple boughs, the coat of arms is resplendent in selective gold plating that mimics the original coins golden appearance. The luxurious plating also extends to the rim, as well as the raised beaded circle that frames each side of the coin. The reverse features the word CANADA above the coat of arms, while the year 2017 and the face value 250 DOLLARS are engraved beneath it. The obverse features the official Canada 150 privy mark beneath the gold-plated effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. A MINT MILESTONE: An extraordinary commemoration of the first Canadian gold cointhis time, in an impressive 1 kg of 99.99% pure silver that makes this coin almost FIVE times larger than the original.
