The year 2012 marked an historic occasion that had not been celebrated in over 100 years-the Diamond Jubilee for Canada’s reigning monarch. The previous and only monarch of Canada to reach this milestone was Queen Victoria in 1897. The design features Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the years of her reign. A Swarovski element shines like a diamond, forming the number “0″ in “2012″ and symbolizing the Diamond Jubilee. This is Canada: Wondrous Waters. The series explores the Wondrous Waters that surround us – from Canada’s Pacific shores to our northern waters, and from the eastern seaboard to our southernmost lakes, capturing our coastal terrain and the wildlife that thrives on each coast. Highlighting the theme of exploring Canada, compass elements surround the engraved designs. This design is an artistic representation of Canada’s Arctic coast. The moonlit scene features a berry picker to represent traditional native foods and harvest activities on land, where the flat tundra is punctuated by a pingo. A snowy owl has taken flight, and the tail of a beluga whale appears in the water that lines the shore, which is marked by caribou tracks and those of a polar bear. The beach is also lined with driftwood carried to the Arctic coast by rivers and ocean currents, making it a symbol of interconnectedness. Compass elements form a frame that contains the word “CANADA” and a face value of “20 DOLLARS”. The obverse features the new effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati. Mintage is limited to 7,500 coins. NumisCan Coins and Jewelry is committed to providing an exceptional experience every time you shop with us. The Canada jay is a year-round resident of the boreal forests that stretch from coast to coast and into the North-exactly why it earns its patriotic name. While other bird species pack their bags for warmer places, this grey-and-white songbird stays put, stashing snacks and turning winter into its own playground. Bold and curious, the Canada jay loves to swoop in and check out anything new, especially if it might be edible. The design by Canadian artist Tony Bianco features a pair of Canada jays-one rests on a white pine branch, while the other swoops in on the wing. Their grey-and-white plumage, along with the evergreen branches, stand out against the engraved winter landscape where a snow-covered path leads to a distant log cabin. The obverse features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati. Mintage is limited to 7,500.
