2017 Kilo'In The Eyes of the Timber Wolf' $250 Silver Coin. 9999Fine(18007)(NT)

Equipped with superior peripheral and night vision, the timber wolf (Canis lupus occidentalis) surveys the wilds of western Canada with an unforgettable intensity in its gaze, which only adds to its mysterious allure. This elusive, powerful yet social species is the special focus of the fourth coin in an ongoing series, which features enamel-enhanced portraits of Canadas wildlife. The reverse design by Canadian artist Pierre Leduc features a detailed portrait of a timber wolf (Canis lupus occidentalis), also known as the Mackenzie Valley wolf. A close view of the wolfs facial features dominates the reverse, where the application of gold-toned enamel immediately pulls the focus towards its unforgettable stare. The colour effect adds a glowing intensity to each iris while darkening the pupils; breaking free from this locked gaze, a study of the wolfs other facial features shows an outstanding amount of detail. Advanced finishing and shading techniques enhance the intricate engraving and provide a breathtaking sense of depth, texture and contrast to the wolfs ears, nose, mouth and fur. Lock eyes with one of western Canadas iconic wolf species! Fourth in the annual series of 99.99% pure silver 1-kilogram coins featuring selective enamel-enhanced portraits of Canadas iconic wildlife. Gold-toned enamel adds a colourful intensity to the eyes as they seemingly stare directly at the viewer. LYNX In The Eyes Of The Glow In The Dark Silver Coin 15$ Canada 2017

This incredible Silver coin is the second release in the new In The Eyes Of The series featuring the remarkable eyes of some of Canadas wildlife species. In this edition the Lynx. The coin has a Glow-in-the-Dark effect, has an innovative enamel effect, and comes in a case, along with the Certificate of Authenticity. Limited mintage to 6.500 pieces worldwide. The reverse of the coin by Canadian artist Curtis Atwater presents the close-up portrait of a Lynx and features complex engraving that adds textural detail. Special emphasis is placed on the owls eyes, where an enamel effect mimics the glossy look of a traditional paint application, but with far more colour variances that give the amber-coloured irises a more life-like appearance. They are further enhanced by glow-in-the-dark technology that adds a luminous intensity to the piercing gaze, which mimics the naturally luminous effect of the nocturnal hunters stare during a rare nighttime encounter. The obverse of the coin features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the inscriptions: CANADA the issue country, 2017 the year of issue, D·G·REGINA Dei Gratia Regina, 15 DOLLARS the face value and ELIZABETH II the name of the Queen. Lynx A lynx is any of the four species within the Lynx genus of medium-sized wild cats, which includes the bobcat. The name lynx originated in Middle English via Latin from the Greek word derived from the Indo-European root leuk in reference to the luminescence of its reflective eyes. Neither the caracal, sometimes called the desert lynx, nor the jungle cat, called the jungle lynx, is a member of the Lynx genus. Lynx have a short tail, characteristic tufts of black hair on the tips of their ears, large, padded paws for walking on snow and long whiskers on the face. Under their neck, they have a ruff which has black bars resembling a bow tie although this is often not visible. Body colour varies from medium brown to goldish to beige-white, and is occasionally marked with dark brown spots, especially on the limbs. All species of lynx have white fur on their chests, bellies and on the insides of their legs, fur which is an extension of the chest and belly fur. The lynx’s colouring, fur length and paw size vary according to the climate in their range. In the Southwestern United States, they are short-haired, dark in colour and their paws are smaller and less padded. As climates get colder and more northerly, lynx have progressively thicker fur, lighter colour, and their paws are larger and more padded to adapt to the snow. Their paws may be larger than a human hand or foot. The smallest species are the bobcat and the Canada lynx, while the largest is the Eurasian lynx, with considerable variations within species. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. Ever notice how some animals have eyes that glow in the dark? Tapetum lucidum is a mirror-like layer in the eye that enhances an animal’s vision in low-light conditions, by reflecting light back to the retinal cells for a second pass. It’s also responsible for the colourful shine (eyeshine) that flashes from the eye when light is suddenly cast upon it. Like us, the owl’s forward-facing eyes provide it with a largely binocular field of view. But unlike us, it has poor peripheral vision since its eyes cannot move from side-to-sideinstead, the owl can rotate its head 270 degrees to study its surroundings. To protect its eye, the owl has three eyelids: a top lid that closes when the owl blinks, a bottom lid that comes up when the owl sleeps, and a thin, translucent tissue that sweeps sideways across the eye to clean and protect it. This is known as the nictitating membrane, and is common in several birds, fish, reptiles and mammals. The artistry and craftsmanship ensure a life-like feel to the image, as made evident by the remarkably textured appearance of the wolfs thick fur. The masterful combination of dynamic design, vibrant colour, multiple finishes and highly detailed engraving makes this a timeless addition to your wildlife-, nature- or Canadiana-themed collection. 2015 Kilo'In The Eyes of the Cougar' $250 Silver Coin. 9999 Fine (NT) (16975)

Few would contest the cougars reputation as a stealthy hunter that relies on its keen senses to survive in remote areas of western Canada. Its exceptional vision is uniquely adapted to allow the cougar to hunt its prey during any time of day a feature that is beautifully showcased in this coin. The reverse image by Canadian artist Glen Loates offers a close-up portrait of the cougar (Felis concolor). Here, the shy predators piercing gaze is decidedly fixed upon the viewer as though each one is studying the other. But the selective use of coloured enamel ensures the female cougars eyes are the images focal point; the distinctive greenish hue recreates the light-reflective qualities of the animals eyes, which are protected from the bright light conditions by the contracted pupils. The large cats facial features are also rendered in fine detail, from its short fur to its visible whiskers and attentive ears. A unique opportunity to get a close view of a cougar a formidable predator that relies on its exceptional vision to capture its prey. This finely detailed rendering of the cougars facial features exemplify the Royal Canadian Mints internationally renowned artistry and craftsmanship. Part of a continuing series that celebrates the distinctive eyes of some of Canadas renowned wildlife. A remarkable addition to any Canadiana- or wildlife-themed collection.
