While sketching out various design possibilities, I came up with the idea of a bison bull walking up a mound, with a second one walking in the opposite direction below, effectively creating a clockwise motion. It allowed me to illustrate both animals in their entirety, while also keeping with a round format. Years ago, I had the good fortune of observing bison in the wild, and I was struck by the imposing stature and domineering nature of the bulls.
