The design features an ultra-high relief raised sugar maple leaf set against a “heart of the forest” pulsating field pattern that showcases Canada’s vast forests. By tilting the coin, a unique light play creates the illusion of an endless forest on a misty day, with tall conifers seemingly falling in and out of view. The coin’s obverse includes the forest as a subtle field pattern and features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati. Mintage is limited to just 1,750 coins. Covering nearly 40% of Canada’s total land area, our vast forests are a mosaic of diverse tree species, each one contributing shapes and colours to the woodland landscapes that fall within their natural range. Canada’s forests are a vital part of our national identity, and this special relationship inspired the new’heart of the forest’ pulsating field pattern as a fitting pairing with the central maple leaf.
